Re: Build-a-Pi 3.0.8

I have one of three pi's where it was upgraded to 3.0.8, but the updater tool is still under preferences.

Not sure why, but they are all set up in different ways, so, I am not sure why this one didn't update the menu item.

I will try and do a build from the repository and see if that works.

Nope. FLAMP won't update on its own. I'll wait. I'm not knowledgable on compiling stuff...I can wait.

?

And QSSTV? Is this the same issue as in the beta of 3.0.8? I thought that was fixed.?

Thanks & 73.

There is currently an issue with FLMSG¡¯s source code. That causes the updater to crash. Try updating FLAMP by itself and see if it will do it on its own. As for FLMSG you will have to wait until they do a source code update or KM4ACK makes his beta patcher official release.
Unless you are comfortable messing with command line stuff in which case there was a thread a bit ago about FLMSG where the guys posted a fix using the command line.

I know there were some issues from the beta version of 3.0.8, but I did not download the beta and waited until it was released before updating to BAP 3.0.8.

I got BAP 3.0.8 (not beta) installed painlessly, although when trying to do an update with it after the initial install, it keeps saying that FLAMP and FLMSG "NEEDS-UPDATE", which I do. I see them getting updated in the terminal window, but when I go back in BAP 3.0.8 it still says that they need to be updated. Also, QSSTV will not install. Basically the same as above with FLAMP & FLMSG.

Hi Jeff,

That is not version 3.0.8 that is failing.? It is the FLMSG script that is failing on the update.? If you wait it will be fixed on a future update, otherwise Jason has a groups.io thread where he addresses the temporary fix.? If you can wait just don't check that you want FLMSG updated.

Are you still receiving an error when launching the update tool?? If so, please post it.

Re: BAP on RasPi zero

Vic -- Good afternoon (from France)
I've just completed a KX3 GoBox that uses an internal Raspi 4 running BAP.
It works well but I could do without the extra heat generated by the Pi inside the small Pelican case! (Take a look at my Youtube video to get an idea of the size etc?)

I'm interested in the lowest power Raspi version that BAP will run on?
Did you get everything working on the Pi-Zero or is the 3B the smallest power consuming version that I should consider?

Re: No Gridsquare in Conky but cgps gives me good information.

No worries Jason..? I figured it was a miss communication somewhere. I reinstalled everything and it worked..

The 891 is odd..? I'd had it working for a couple of weeks..? I turned it off..? I came back yesterday and powered everything back up and I can't transmit again..? No power coming from radio..? I think I'll go back to factory settings and try again.

Thank you and 73,

Hi John,? I never heard back from Jason
I never saw a post/question from you after the recommendations in my last post to you on June 24. Sorry if you sent it elsewhere and I missed it.

I am having the same problem after the lastest install. I tried all the previous suggestions for this thread including watching the video and still no joy on my end. Everything else for Conky works except for the grid square and xgps and cgps both give good information from the gps dongle
Run this command and see if it produces any errors:
/home/pi/bin/conky/grid

If it produces errors, please post them here. If not, run
cat /run/user/$UID/gridinfo.txt
and see if it shows your grid.

Re: Beta 3.0.8 & GPS

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Conky is displaying the grid square using this line from the .conkyrc file
${font Arial:bold:size=18}${color White}Gridsquare ${alignr}${color Yellow}${execi 60 cat /run/user/1000/gridinfo.txt | cut -c1-8}

the important part is?
cat /run/user/1000/gridinfo.txt

gridinfo is built by the execution of grid found in folder?/home/pi/bin/conky
grid is run by cron every minute

A couple of items

1.? Can your run cgps in a terminal and post the output back to us?
2.? Has there been any changes to the .conkyrc file or is it default as installed?
3.? What is the output of crontab -l run in a terminal window?
4.? What is the result of?cat /run/user/1000/gridinfo.txt run in a terminal window?

Thanks,

Hello All:

So, Terry's suggested link led to a post from Jason where he saw a similar GPS Some Err in Conky and used Update to reload GPS. This worked for me and removed the Some Err message.

But, now Conky shows no Gridsquare at all, no matter the amount of time that the GPS is operating; no error, just blank. When I run CGPS or XGPS these programs show GPS activity as expected when the GPS is online. I have duplicated this situation on two PI4/2gb's and one Pi3 B+, updating from BAP3.0.5 and BAP3.0.7. in the earlier versions Conky did show the Gridsquare properly, but after the update to BAP3.0.8 Conky show blank on Gridsquare.

Seems like, with the GPS utilities showing proper operation the problem is Conky in 3.0.8.

Other thoughts or ideas?

Thanks,

Re: New 'noob' to Pi and any non-windows environment

Thanks for the response. I figured?it out about 6 hours after I shouted to the world. At any rate I have Buster up and running and just trying to figure some other things out. Yes I hope to get RealVNC running but for now I am using a monitor, keyboard?and mouse. I have added the gparted so I can handle the SSD when it arrives. I also added VNC. But before I do any more, I'm trying to figure out how to update the build-a-pi V3.0.8 to 3.0.9. This is like learning machine language for a main frame back in the early 70's.

Mike,
Once you have the zipped Buster download to your computer, you need to extract it and use something like Win32Disk Imager to copy it to the SD card. On Macs we use BalenaEtcher which will uncompress the zip file and then copy it to the SD. Win32DiskImager may do the same.
Are you going to use the Pi without a monitor? If so, there are a couple of other steps to make sure your wireless network can see the Pi. But that is another issue.?
Let me know,

Ok guy's. I'm very new to this Pi things as well as the language it uses and the OS. I have a Pi 4B and it came with a sd card loaded with Noobian. That went well. Now my problem. I was to create a new SD card with Buster desktop on it. I have the SD and the usb micro sd writer. I have down loaded (on windows) the buster zip file. Do I copy that to the SD and and unzip it on the card, then install the card in the Pi 4B and let i boot (pressing ctrl + shift + X during the boot)? I have watched the KM4ACK you-tube video's, but they are obviously for someone who is not jumping in for the very first time

I think KC9CTP had a mistype there and meant 3.0.8, of course I could be wrong but I don't think they

have come out with a new one just yet.

SOLVED:

I went over to the GitHub repository and used that Build-a-pi script and that corrected the above issue. One thing that I did notice, was that the Gridsquare for PAT said that I had to run Pat configure to get it applied while running the script.?

Off to do that. :)?

Interesting!

I just ran Build-a-Pi, and it completed successfully, I see HAMRS added under the Hamradio menu, however, the Build-a-pi script is still located under the Preferences menu. ??

Any ideas??
