Re: 73Linux doesn't like hamlib (?)
#73linux
I'm running on several different machines and OSes and I always have to install JS8Call and hamlib from source. Otherwise, I have hamlib incompatibility problems with JS8Call. The build statically links a compatible hamlib (the JS8Call binary will be much larger than the original one). CAT never works on my (tr)uSDX without doing the build over the default 73 Linux build or a package installation on my other systems. Sometimes I've even had problems with my 7300 until I did my own build.
73 Linux on my RPi4 was no exception. It's only JS8Call that has the problem with incompatible hamlib. WSTJT-X works fine. On 73 Linux, I removed the default hamlib from the system too, as covered here: /g/KM4ACK-Pi/topic/87025200#6369 73, Cal - AD8Q |

Not all apps have this feature yet. There are conflicts between hamlib installed from the repo and built from source. If installing from the repo with apps like gpredict, the user should avoid installing hamlib built from source. Previously if the user choose to install hamlib, the script would remove libhamlib4. Unfortunately, this also would uninstall apps like gpredict altogether. ? -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: 73Linux doesn't like hamlib (?)

I am experimenting with 73Linux on a 64bit pi running buster. OS and 73Linux have fresh downloads on 4 Oct.
I selected almost everything to install.? I notice that 73Linux installs pyqso from apt.? This requires apt to install python3-hamlib.? 73Linux also uses apt to install gpredict which reqires and installs libhamlib-utils and libhamlib4 using apt.? Then 73Linux downloads and compiles hamlib from source ( but doesn't include the python bindings required by pyqso, by the way ).? The apt installed version and the source code linux version seem to conflict and I end up errors.? For instance, when I run rigctl --version I see "rigctl: undefined symbol: cookie_use".?? I attempted to use 73Linux to uninstall hamlib but it just exits without complaint and without uninstalling hamlib. Did I miss something? Lowell |
Re: BAP > 73Linux upgrade
that is an app more dedicated to a pi as it runs full screen it¡¯s use in a desktop is less common as the resources needed are a esp32 level processor.?
the faq and desktop tab has step by step compile options for setting your resolution - there is also docker projects which will enable the app in a window, which is more desirable for most (hope this helps with ideas)? Kelly? |
Re: Getting on the map
Assuming you followed my video on setting up the gateway, it should put you on the map without any additional work. With that said, my station disappeared from the map a month or so back. I updated to the latest version of BPQ at that time and it solved the issue. The version I am currently running is 6.0.24.2. To find your version, you can run "screen -r bpq" which opens the terminal for bpq. The version number will be at the top of the terminal window.
Mike is sorta correct. It will only show stations that have reported in the last four hours. The BPQ software is responsible for the reporting. No actual connections need to be made. If you are running 6.0.24.2 or later and it still isn't showing up, jump over to the BPQ forum /g/bpq32/topics A lot of knowledgeable folks there that are much more qualified than I to chase down the issue. -- 73, de KM4ACK

Re: chrony GPS time offset on Build-a-Pi
Interesting! Many moons ago I found the line "refclock SHM 0 offset 0.5 delay 0.2 refid NMEA" in an article/forum while researching info on adding a GPS to the Pi and added it to BAP. It has always worked well for me but I seldom us WSJTX. Most of my time is spent in JS8Call which is similar. On the rare occasions that I use WSJTX, the offset has always seemed to work. Thanks for the great write up. I'll keep on eye for others that may test and can change the code if needed. You mentioned screenshots but I don't see any attached.

Re: Getting on the map
I too am planning on setting up a Winlink gateway over by Mansfield, Ohio with the same setup. Presently I am in the "collecting parts" stage. One thing I know about the Winlink map is that it only shows gateways that have had activity for (I think..) the last 4 hours. If you can, connect to your gateway, or have someone else connect to it and?send an email. Then wait about 30 minutes. It should show up. As far as having it appear in the packet station list, I can't help you. My guess is that eventually it will show up.? Following... ? -- Mike WB8ERJ Geeze! What is he up to now? |
