I'm running on several different machines and OSes and I always have to install JS8Call and hamlib from source. Otherwise, I have hamlib incompatibility problems with JS8Call. The build statically links a compatible hamlib (the JS8Call binary will be much larger than the original one). CAT never works on my (tr)uSDX without doing the build over the default 73 Linux build or a package installation on my other systems. Sometimes I've even had problems with my 7300 until I did my own build.
73 Linux on my RPi4 was no exception. It's only JS8Call that has the problem with incompatible hamlib. WSTJT-X works fine. On 73 Linux, I removed the default hamlib from the system too, as covered here:
