1000 HX Display

g3zbg@hotmail.com

I wish to replace an old dim display with an OLED display and would appreciate information of a source for a display and method of fitting.?

Hi,

I have not tested myself this upgrade, but I made some research, and found this info:

In general what you want is an LCD with LED backlight that is 85mm X 30mm with 14 inputs on the right and two for the LED on the left. Max height is the thing to watch. The Jameco listed below is 13mm max total height. The?interface should be the mpu 8 bit parallel standard provided by many onboard controlers ( KS 0066 (or equivalent), HD44780U, ETC).

Interesting; you get the size requirements, controller data, and pins.?

-- - - - - - - - LED - - - - - - - - -?

More research give results for LED display really dirt cheap:

image.png
ERMC1602SBS-2 is 16 characters wide,2 rows character lcd module,SPLC780C controller (Industry-standard HD44780 compatible controller),6800 4/8-bit parallel interface, single led backlight with white color included can be dimmed easily with a resistor

So, modern SPLC780C controller equipped displays may be compatible. This buydisplay model is only 11mm height, so it is below the 13mm limit. Nice.

Further OLED research gives also cheap results, i.e.:

  • Characters:16*2
  • Dimensions:85.0*30.0*12.0mm
  • Viewing area size:64.5*16.0mm
  • Controller:SPLC780C or similar

This model is only 12mm height, so it is below the 13mm limit. Nice.

So, it may be a compatible display for K1000 replacement, but, I have not tested this personally, so it MAY be a working replacement, but I can?t assure that it will work, and also there may be (probably!!) a contrast issue to solve.

Remember this important info:?you need to make some modifications to make a new led or oled display to work; check detailed info -as example- on? as noted by Mr. Michae Kirk user. So it is not a simple "swap" solution,.

Best greetings,
José Juan

I replaced the backlight only with one of these:

Easy installation and it works just fine.

Hello all,

And here it is the result. The ultracheap display works on the K1000 modules series.
It is not an impossible task, but for a very few cost you can get an acceptable -not perfect- result.
Most important thing is about contrast, that I solved by placing the module on the lower side of the rack, so I can read perfectly the displayed characters.?
LED backlight is very good, too much light for a dark environment, but it won?t burn your eyes.
Second is about LCD module placement into the chassis: you have to make some brico tricks to place it on the right place. Original display is a lot much thinner.
And finally you will need soldering skills to desolder the display wires (14 iirc) and resolder them on the new display. No connectors, etc....

From that angle, it looks very nice to me.

Good work.

Thanks, Larry.

There was an error on my previous post. There IS a connector on the K1000 display; you have to desolder it and solder on the brand new display, instead of desoldering wires.

It was my mistake, because I had to do that on an Akai AR900 which uses the same type of display, but with better results on the AR900 when talking about contrast.

Re: the contrast, the 1000 series modules have a provision for contrast adjustment.? Just add a pot (2K to 50K, the value isn't critical) in the R005 location, and cut the circuit trace between the center pin of R005 and the pin toward the front of the unit.? A Bourns or Beckman 3/8" multi-turn pot will work fine.

Brian
