Re: Ford LGT165 for sale southern Indiana
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI'd be on your doorstep, but I'm out of Portland, OR. I need a working 16HP engine.

Re: Battery Rejuvination
I used to get 3 years on the batteries that I bought at Tractor supply. They went for $25. This year the price doubled and that is what made me look for a different approach.

Thanks for the info, good to know, always thought those were scams. I got tired of replacing fairly new mower batteries that went dead in the off season and invested in battery tenders (trickle chargers). They work great and have extended the life of all 4 of my mower batteries. I know one of the batteries is stamped 2017. On my mowers that aren't near an elec outlet, I remove the batteries and keep them on a tender in the garage. I believe they make solar chargers too. |

Battery Rejuvination
I am in Northeast Connecticut. Last winter we had only a few very light snows. Not enough to bring out my 1964 Chief 1000 with it's 2 stage snow blower. So, in April when I decided to move it out to the shed for the summer, the battery was completely dead. I checked it with a hygrometer and each section stayed in the red. The hygrometer float didn't move even a mm in any of the 6 sections. So I tried something. I purchased a "battery rejuvinator" on eBay for $11. It was 6 small packets of a white powder. I poured into each into of the 6 battery sections and charged it up. I then started the tractor up and moved it to the shed for the summer. Today I decided to move the tractor to the garage for the winter. I turned the start key and it had almost enough power to start the engine. I then charged it for 5 minutes nan then tried again to start the tractor engine. It turned over quickly and started right up. So what ever the chemical was, it worked. A new battery would have cost me $50 and I was able to extend it's life for only $11.? ??

Re: coil
The coil may be fine. Try installing a new condenser.?

Re: coil
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýInteresting. ?Out of box failures on coils are not uncommon. ?I'd be interested to hear the resistance numbers, but more interested to hear if the new coil resolves the issue. ?It may need a ballast resistor. Don't fear that timing light. ?Intermittent spark is not the same as erratic timing. ?You don't need to actually check the timing. ?Just look at the strobe against a spinning part and listen to the rpm. ?The should move together without the spinning part jumping around erratically. Your ignition needs to provide sufficient spark on time AND in time. Regards, Michael On Sep 20, 2023, at 11:45 AM, B. Graedel <brikathy@...> wrote:

Re: coil
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýHi Michael, The goofy thing is, when I re-install the original coil, the engine runs moderately well as it did before I decided to just upgrade the coil with a newer one to eliminate any hidden problems with using the old one.? The vendor has sent a 2nd coil for me to try which I will do in the next couple of days ¨C but I true fully don¡¯t expect any different results form the 2nd new coil because the primary resistance and secondary resistance are the same, both of which are much lower than the Kohler/Jacobson/ford coil. ? The symptoms I was experiencing originally was little sensitivity in carb adjustments, and having to have partial choke for operating speed and a different choke setting for idle.? Lowest ide rpm I could reliably get was about 1175+.? Also had an intermittent miss - completely random.? I installed new points, condenser, plug, lapped the valve and seats, new head gasket, and replaced the China (big mistake) carb with one from ¡°I save tractors.? The coil I ordered did not come right away, so I assembled all and fired it up, adjusted carb and so on.? The new carb solved the idle and run with choke problem, rpm¡¯s were more controllable, and it now idles at about 1050 rpm.? The random miss is still there, but a lot less often. ? When the new (1st) coil arrived, I installed it and it backfired (not simultaneously) thru the exhaust and intake very often.? I reinstalled the original coil and the backfire problem went away, but still had an occasional random miss. So here we are b ? coil
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýNot sure on how to contact the group, haven¡¯t tried since it went to ¡°IO?¡± or something like that. Have a LGT145, 73-74 with a K321AS engine.? I thought perhaps the coil was going bad after 45+ years and purchased one via Ebay that was? supposed to fit. When installed, the engine backfires thru the intake and exhaust, seem randomly.? Suspect the coil is for a newer K321 but not a vintage on like mine.? In conversations with the seller who is working with me, we measured the ohm resistance of the primary and the secondary and they are not the same as the original Jacobson/ford coil.? Is it possible I need an additional resistance block? Or just a different coil? Thanks brian |

Thanks to the members of this group that offered guidance on solving my need. E-Bay had the part for just over $10. It's on its way, and my second acre can be cut once again.? Steve Walinsky

No problem.? If you are on a PC the links aren't working try holding down the CTRL key and clicking.
The first link I sent was from ebay, here is one from Amazon if you prefer them:
Or Waco Turf (this is the actual Jacobsen part number)
Or lawnmower pros
