I used to get 3 years on the batteries that I bought at Tractor supply. They went for $25. This year the price doubled and that is what made me look for a different approach.

I got tired of replacing fairly new mower batteries that went dead in the off season and invested in battery tenders (trickle chargers). They work great and have extended the life of all 4 of my mower batteries. I know one of the batteries is stamped 2017. On my mowers that aren't near an elec outlet, I remove the batteries and keep them on a tender in the garage. I believe they make solar chargers too.
