Coils don't change timing.

Failed condensers often don't stop an engine from running, but the points will wear quickly. ?Points wear changes timing, but doesn't necessarily make it inconsistent.

I would start with timing and points. ?If your coil is too hot and needs an external resistor, it may damage the wires feeding it, but the engine will run great on that very high energy spark.

My LGT145 is of similar vintage. ?The coil did fail. ?Symptom was won't run, no spark. ?I bought a generic 12V coil at auto parts store and it was resolved. ?I think I've replaced points twice because of engine wear wearing on them crooked, and oil contamination.

Not sure on how to contact the group, haven¡¯t tried since it went to ¡°IO?¡± or something like that.

Have a LGT145, 73-74 with a K321AS engine.? I thought perhaps the coil was going bad after 45+ years and purchased one via Ebay that was? supposed to fit.

When installed, the engine backfires thru the intake and exhaust, seem randomly.? Suspect the coil is for a newer K321 but not a vintage on like mine.? In conversations with the seller who is working with me, we measured the ohm resistance of the primary and the secondary and they are not the same as the original Jacobson/ford coil.? Is it possible I need an additional resistance block? Or just a different coil?

Thanks
