Re: NF Closure Extension? #permits - new rule: campfire permit needed
#permits
开云体育As per a new rule, a separate campfire permit is needed. I “picked up” a permit today, here’s a copy/paste from the email: ? We are in a new stage of fire restrictions – you will need a CA campfire permit to operate your stove – here is the link: ? CALIFORNIA STOVE PERMIT INFORMATION:

Re: Reds Meadow shuttle after National Forest reopening
#Transportation
Prior to the closure, the announced ending date for the Reds shuttle was September 12. I would recommend hiking over Mammoth Pass to Reds. The Lakes Basin shuttle is still operating until September 29 and will take you to Horseshoe Lake where the trailhead is located. It’s an easy day hike.?

Reds Meadow shuttle after National Forest reopening
#Transportation
Now that permits are opening in Reds Meadow valley, are the Reds Meadows shuttles operating?
I am taking YARTS and getting into Mammoth Lakes late in the evening next week. Is there a way to get to Devils Postpile Trailhead and camp at night before starting on the trail next morning? Alternatively, i could camp in New Shady Rest for the night. How do i get from the New Shady Rest campground to the Devils Postpile trailhead early next morning? Thanks for any advice. -Shan |

开云体育Another update. The ranger just called me with the following: the official decision came down, and Thursday-Friday are day use. Backpacking trips can be started only on Saturday the 18th. …of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of all of this changes either way in the next 24-48 hours. ? ? Some additional info: I saw the announcement about the Forest opening on the 16th, then checked rec.gov to see if they put up permits for Thursday and Friday. No luck, the first permits are still for Saturday. Then I talked to a ranger at the Inyo Wilderness Permit Office. She was very helpful, but she said she doesn’t know yet, either. The announcement about the sooner opening is relatively fresh and they didn’t give them guidance about what will happen with the extra two days. She said they might be loading new permits for the 16th and 17th to rec.gov later today or just keep it as it is and only let day-users access the forest before Saturday. I’ll keep checking rec.gov, of course. ? ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of Jeff Manas via groups.io ? Inyo IS opening this Saturday, the 18th. I just received my River Trail permit for Saturday. They did say that the closure is subject to being extended, so I still need to keep checking. I don’t know if the SEKI fire will affect Inyo. I’ve been watching the Mammoth Mountain webcam, and it looks hazy out there. AQI is 66. ? ?? Jeff ?

Re: Late Season Conditions
开云体育The main thing to consider is the shorter days, you will spend more time in your tent as it’ll be colder and darker earlier. ?You can get anything in terms of weather, I normally love that time of year - NO BUGS!!!Ian

Re: Late Season Conditions
I have only done this area in sept./oct. and temps were 60/70F daytime and 15/25F at night. Guitar was low teens as was the sunrise summit at Whitney. bring warm gloves. On Wed, Sep 15, 2021 at 9:17 AM John Girot <johnnyg72@...> wrote:

开云体育I doubt you’ll need microspikes but I would bring a sleep system that can handle temps in the teens, maybe some down booties in lieu of microspikes. Hopefully the smoke clears by then.John Girot On Sep 15, 2021, at 8:16 AM, Jeff Hargreaves & Meg Levine <jeff.harg@...> wrote:

Do you take the quiz where you pickup your permit? Or is this an online thing?
Found it:? |
Re: NF Closure Extension?

P.S. A campfire permit is required if you plan to use a stove. You have to watch a short video, and take an 8 question quiz. The permit is good through the end of the year.

开云体育From the Inyo home page "With the termination of the Regional Forest Closure order, we are pleased to announce that the Inyo will re-open with no closures in place. This means the forest will be open on Thursday, September 16." On 9/15/2021 6:57 AM, John Ladd wrote:

Late Season Conditions
We have a permit for Onion Valley to Whitney Portal starting 9/27, exiting 10/2. I'm very familiar with the route but not this late in the season.
Any thoughts on temperatures and additional equipment we might need (re microspike)? Our last two nights will be at Guitar Lake and Trail Camp. Thanks, Jeff Hargreaves |

Re: Healthy Ramen noodles- a recommendation/tip
Try this brand of instant noodle if you like hot coconut curry broth. They have other flavors, like crab and shrimp. If you find them at an Asian market they're cheaper than Amazon; just used the link for the photos.?
We add freeze-dried chicken, spinach, and broccoli to the mix. It's epic as far as ramen goes. https://www.amazon.com/Prima-Taste-Singapore-Noodles-Packets/dp/B00JJOVDD6/ref=asc_df_B00JJOVDD6/?tag=hyprod-20&linkCode=df0&hvadid=312193075834&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11569646181827844444&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=9004354&hvtargid=pla-568026373907&psc=1 |
