Think about Lower Cathedral Lake. Though fewer campsites there, fewer people will go there, I assume, and I prefer Lower to Upper in any case.

Nearest is 4 miles (on the PCT/JMT or any other trail stemming from TM)
from TM until their construction work is done. You can't camp alongside
the trail unless it's at least 4 miles from a car
