Yosemite permits on recreation.gov

In case this hasn't been posted yet, here is the Yosemite page that explains how permits will work on recreation.gov.

It sounds like they'll be charging for unsuccessful permit requests.

Re: NF Closure Extension? #permits - new rule: campfire permit needed #permits

As per a new rule, a separate campfire permit is needed. I “picked up” a permit today, here’s a copy/paste from the email:

?

We are in a new stage of fire restrictions – you will need a CA campfire permit to operate your stove – here is the link:

?

CALIFORNIA STOVE PERMIT INFORMATION:

  • Print out your attached permit, sign it, and carry it with you on the trail.

a campfire permit is included with wilderness permits issued by Inyo, Sequoia and Sierra national forests. some others as well. while it's probably a good idea to get the permit anyways, it's not necessary unless you're starting a hike in one of the national parks and continuing into one of the national forests.

?

source: I talked to a half dozen rangers (mostly via email) last year to get clarification.

Re: Reds Meadow shuttle after National Forest reopening #Transportation

Prior to the closure, the announced ending date for the Reds shuttle was September 12. I would recommend hiking over Mammoth Pass to Reds. The Lakes Basin shuttle is still operating until September 29 and will take you to Horseshoe Lake where the trailhead is located. It’s an easy day hike.?

Reds Meadow shuttle after National Forest reopening #Transportation

Now that permits are opening in Reds Meadow valley, are the Reds Meadows shuttles operating?
I am taking YARTS and getting into Mammoth Lakes late in the evening next week. Is there a way to get to Devils Postpile Trailhead and camp at night before starting on the trail next morning?
Alternatively, i could camp in New Shady Rest for the night. How do i get from the New Shady Rest campground to the Devils Postpile trailhead early next morning?
Thanks for any advice.

Another update.

The ranger just called me with the following: the official decision came down, and Thursday-Friday are day use. Backpacking trips can be started only on Saturday the 18th.

…of course, I wouldn’t be surprised if any of all of this changes either way in the next 24-48 hours.

Some additional info:

I saw the announcement about the Forest opening on the 16th, then checked rec.gov to see if they put up permits for Thursday and Friday. No luck, the first permits are still for Saturday.

Then I talked to a ranger at the Inyo Wilderness Permit Office. She was very helpful, but she said she doesn’t know yet, either. The announcement about the sooner opening is relatively fresh and they didn’t give them guidance about what will happen with the extra two days. She said they might be loading new permits for the 16th and 17th to rec.gov later today or just keep it as it is and only let day-users access the forest before Saturday.

I’ll keep checking rec.gov, of course.

Inyo IS opening this Saturday, the 18th. I just received my River Trail permit for Saturday. They did say that the closure is subject to being extended, so I still need to keep checking. I don’t know if the SEKI fire will affect Inyo. I’ve been watching the Mammoth Mountain webcam, and it looks hazy out there. AQI is 66.

Praise unto Lord Freezus, for he taketh away the mosquitos! Can I get an A-MOUNTAIN?!?!

Re: NF Closure Extension? #permits

You take the quiz online, and they e-mail the permit. Very easy.

The main thing to consider is the shorter days, you will spend more time in your tent as it’ll be colder and darker earlier. ?You can get anything in terms of weather, I normally love that time of year - NO BUGS!!!

Do you take the quiz where you pickup your permit? Or is this an online thing?

Found it:?

From the Inyo home page

"With the termination of the Regional Forest Closure order, we are pleased to announce that the Inyo will re-open with no closures in place. This means the forest will be open on Thursday, September 16."

Re: Healthy Ramen noodles- a recommendation/tip

Try this brand of instant noodle if you like hot coconut curry broth. They have other flavors, like crab and shrimp. If you find them at an Asian market they're cheaper than Amazon; just used the link for the photos.?

We add freeze-dried chicken, spinach, and broccoli to the mix. It's epic as far as ramen goes.
