Re: Ventoy usb boot menu tool.
I have one Linux sampler USB stick with Ventoy and several Linux ISOs installed. It works.
The program I chose to use was Easy2Boot. <https://easy2boot.xyz/> I used a 64GB USB stick that had one Win7 ISO and 22 Linux ISOs loaded. I never tried the Win7 ISO but tested all the Linux distros on various old laptops, looking for the Linux I liked best and ran well. If I remember right, most ISOs booted but I had trouble depending which computer I was booting. So it was more a BIOS vs UEFI problem which I've had before. 73, Doug. |
Re: Installing as os on computer
Minor correction:? W7LXE = Windows 7 Loader eXtreme Edition.
It isn't a ham callsign. The software is a "Windows Activator program", a hack written to eliminate the Windows Activation check for unlicensed copies of Windows. These days, all versions of Win7 are unlicensed copies.... But make an informed decision about installing the software. I did a search for "w7lxe software" and the first link explained the problems and another link mentioned that 3 out of 4 copies tested were safe to use, the last one was malware. "Let the downloader beware." I've been looking for a reliable fix myself, will probably try it..... Thanks. |
Re: Installing as os on computer
Thanks, Dave, I appreciate your insight on both topics. Not all parents are ogres, and I have supported the legislation in Kentucky, my home for the past 68 years. It breaks my heart to see you and others in that divisive custody setting. It renews my faith in humanity to see people step up to the plate to fight for what is right. Your comments on the installs were exactly what I was looking for. I try my best to avoid issues like that. Why try to reinvent the wheel?? Thanks again, Dave.? -- -------------------------------Taylor Mill, Kentucky? I have decided to stick with love. Hate is too great a burden to bear.? ? ?¨C Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.? |
Re: Installing as os on computer
You're welcome... It is Dr. King's methods that I hope to emulate in my fight for children's rights, or more formally, "a rebuttable presumption of 50 / 50 shared parenting" of children post-divorce. You see, the lawyers are fighting us (the public) on this, because they think we're going to hurt their pocketbook... We're not...but they don't see it that way. They prefer their own greed over the suffering of little children and non-custodial parents. And since many politicians are attorneys, they have better access to those writing the law. BUT... we are making progress. Both Kentucky and West Virginia have passed shared parenting legislation. Change is definitely coming. But, I digress. (Not everyone appreciates to talk about this verboten?topic.) As for me, I've managed to get over 150 ham radio applications to install successfully on the Raspberry Pi 32-bit, and close to that for Raspberry Pi 64-bit and x86_64 PC and now ARM-based Inovato Quadra. There are a few apps I have tried to install, with less than stellar success, but these are in the minority... SparkSDR is one such app, along with ShinySDR, GOESTools, Cloudlog. I'm not saying these can not absolutely be installed, but they have difficulties integrating into HamPi. Another fine application is SDRAngel. It has a very involved and complex build system. I used to include it in HamPi until it got to be too? much maintenance-wise. It is also better for the PC than the Raspberry Pi and it will absolutely not run correctly on the Inovato Quadra. Hope this helps. 73, On Sun, Nov 27, 2022 at 8:46 AM Karl Kaucher <karl.kaucher@...> wrote:

Re: Installing as os on computer
Thanks for the lovely compliment, Dave. I¡¯m a huge admirer of Dr. King. He left us way too soon. II was looking for a list of ¡°don¡¯t bother¡° software. Hoping not to repeat your ?bad experiences. I am cognizant of the fact that it will vary by installation combination, and permutation, but if there is a ham related piece of software that you tried and is not worth trying to install, that¡¯s what I was looking for. I am, you see, a Linux infant. ;-) Efficiency, my friend, efficiency.? -- -------------------------------Taylor Mill, Kentucky? I have decided to stick with love. Re: Installing as os on computer
Karl, What a wonderful tagline from the great late Dr. MLK, Jr. I "grok" that philosophy... Love is why I build HamIQ, HamPi and HamPC. Hate is a destructive force, and one that truly carries a heavy burden. Back to your original question, what specifically would you like me to document about failures and problematic installs? Unfortunately, many of the apps I installed under WINE have been problematic to some extent. Getting software running under WINE takes 2/3 persistence and 1/3 luck and 1/3 perspiration.? ;-) 73, On Sat, Nov 26, 2022 at 2:48 PM Karl Kaucher <karl.kaucher@...> wrote: Dave,? --

Takes work, but is doable. So far I have the following apps running under WINE on my local heavily-modified version of HamPC: Winlink Express VARA VARA FM VarAC Soundmodem HDSDR SDR++ MMSSTV Echolink BlueDV ADIF Master ICOM 7300 Memory Manager ADMS-7 for FTM 400 Aggregator v6.3 Alinco DR-135 Cabrillo Doctor Kenwood MCP-1A RCForb Client (partially working) Microsoft Office 365 WinMerge AppleWin (Apple II emulator) On Fri, Nov 25, 2022 at 5:51 PM Jeff Steinkamp <n7yg@...> wrote:

Re: Installing as os on computer
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýWINE is pretty easy to install on most
Linux distros, but, and this is a very BIG BUT, Windows application
built using the .NET framework can? be an extreme challenge to get
installed and running correctly because he newer .NET libraries are not a
standard part of the WINE package and will require you to install them. Phillip Childs wrote on 11/25/2022 15:07:

Re: Installing as os on computer
You can install HamPC on a USB flash drive or external SSD and boot it from there and try it out without changing the internal drive. WINE is not *yet* added by default. On Fri, Nov 25, 2022 at 5:07 PM Phillip Childs <kj4vfo@...> wrote:

I have a huge list I use rt on... And I have the command control for my ftdx 3k... Is Wine in it or would I need to add it??? Still need to resolve the idea of using it as the OS for the computer On Fri, Nov 25, 2022, 3:18 PM Dave Slotter, W3DJS <slotter@...> wrote:

Re: Installing as os on computer
Phillip, What radios are you programming with RT Systems? And if we install WINE on HamPC, we may?be able to run RT Systems. I know I run Winlink this way with my installation of HamPC. 73, On Fri, Nov 25, 2022 at 2:30 PM Phillip Childs <kj4vfo@...> wrote: My winblows computer in my shack that runs all my programming software for all my radios and my logging apps and other stuff, suddenly says "this copy of windows is not genuine". Re: Installing as os on computer
Hello Phillip, ? ? ? ? ? I own a ton of RT programming suites.? If it is your intent to keep using the RT software you will likely need to buy a product key for your version of windows.? I just did the same not long ago and I believe I paid $15 for the key online.? Your proposal to use HAMPC as a replacement will leave you rather frustrated as in my opinion the option in HAMPC for radio programing is CHIRP.? No bells or whistles with CHIRP and possibly even some disappointment when it comes to hardware management. 73, Herbert K7HAD Sent from my Verizon, Samsung Galaxy smartphone Get |

Re: Hello and the inevitable question
Thanks Kelly, I am having a bit of trouble with my boot settings I think. F10 does not appear to 'save changes and exit' but it is probably another 'me' issue. Linux Mint has all I need for the moment but I would like to at least try HAMPC. I bought 64GB cards just for it and I am having no luck so far. I will persist over the coming days. 73, Tryg
