downloading and installing HamPC on Win11 laptop 4
Hi - I'm having problems downloading and installing HamPC from SourceForge. The download runs, but indicates that it failed. This is the file - HamPC_v3.0.1b1.img.xz. What am I doing wrong? And, once I get a successful download how do I install it on my PC? 73, Lew - AC6LS

Flash/Install issues 50
I have spent entirely way too much time screwing with this. In the military, we commonly referred to this experience as the classic cluster F%^k. I downloaded your HamPC archive from the web link you provided on FB. I also downloaded your Readme file and the How to Flash Image file. I have a 128GB stick so this was perfect for the job, as stated in your file. I downloaded the Rufus program you recommend and got that up and running. Your instructions state that, “You do not need to decompress this file before flashing it to a USB thumb drive.” So, I pointed Rufus to this 5GB archive and clicked Start. The fact this process completed in less than 90 seconds had me quite skeptical. And I was correct. It did not boot, even with me forcing the boot menu direct to the USB drive. I then extracted the Image file from the Archive and got a 35GB image file that appears to be an ISO, but has the file type as image. I selected this .img file in Rufus and this time it appeared to write the image to the USB stick as it took almost an hour to accomplish this process. I did have a look at the stick with the Disk Manager in Windows and it does show this drive with 2 partitions, the first at 512MB as the EFI System Partition and the other as a healthy Primary Partition of 32GB and 88GB that is unallocated. But no matter what I try to do, this stick will not boot in my Windows Machine, nor will it boot in the box I have running Linux. So, If I, a computer professional, am unable to get this working, nobody else will either. I did take a look at your README file and the concept you have is good and it does include a lot of ham radio software. But you have to remember that 80% of licensed hams today are nothing more than appliance operators with almost zero knowledge of Linux and hard pressed to pass the license exam for the class they hold. Your Sourceforge/GIT site is extremely sparse when it comes to information and details. It’s back in your ballcourt now. BTW, I neve did find the WiKi!!

GridTracker not included 4
Hi All, I created a bootable USB of HamPC v3.0, downloaded from here https://sourceforge.net/projects/hampc/. I am able to boot from it on my laptop and even successfully run WSJTX. When I went to go fire up Gridtracker I noticed although listed in the list of Ham apps, it was not in /usr/bin. So I proceeded to install it from the instructions here https://gridtracker.org/index.php/downloads/install-from-repo. It installed in /hampc/bin I believe (not at the machine right now) and not /usr/bin and I get a message "cannot locate gridtracker". Couple of questions: 1) Why did this happen, am I missing install scripts? 2) Did I download from the wrong location? 3) I think I now the commands to get it onto the "Ham Radio" menu items, but how do I get it to be "located"? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance, KD2WIR

RUFUS won't write to USB drive 7
Using the latest rufus: rufus-4.3.exe . The fresh 128 Gb drive is recognized as is the img.xz file. Clicked the check mark and the ready rectangle turns green. The process starts by writing new partitions and then stops. The drive is no longer a lettered drive (D:) in windows - its is now drive 1. Hitting START again gives the same result. I have done this with two fresh USB drives and they are both bricked. HELP! (BTW - I am using HamPI with a Pi4 to run JS8call on a QDX. VERY stable. Hamclock is also great, both as a cool display as for setting the system clock. Really hoping to get the little windows machine to behave as well.) 73, Glen W6GJB

HamPC Hamclock orbital data update issue.
Hello everyone! I have an issue with Hamclock updating the satellite orbital data and in discussions with Elwood, (the developer of Hamclock) I was asked to provide him with the diagnostic file in the Home/Hamclock folder. The issue is that I am unable to locate the Hamclock folder to get to the file to forward to Elwood. Where is the Hamclock folder located? HamPC is my first foray into the world of Linux so please be kind. I have the show the hidden files option enabled and am logged in as an administrator, so what am I missing? I would greatly appreciate any assistance that anyone can extend to me! 73's and Best regards, David KD9JEO

HamPC installed on Hard Drive 5
Ok it seems pointless to run HamPC from a VERY SLOW usb drive when it should run from the internal Hard Drive or SSD. I understand the Live boot but would also like an installer. Anyone managed to get it installed and usable on a PC as it's main OS

Who's Going to Dayton Hamvention?
For those of you on these HamPi / HamPC groups, I thought I should mention I'll be driving up to the Dayton/Xenia area tonight after work and will be at the Dayton Hamvention on Friday and Saturday. If you'd like to have an "Eyeball QSO", please send me a private message with your mobile number and I'll text you to make arrangements. Although, if you're "Google Fu" is mighty, you can probably figure out my mobile number from the "almighty oracle" and text me directly (don't forget your name and callsign). 73, -- -- Dave, W3DJS Technical Specialist, GA Section of ARRL -- -- AEC, Georgia/Gwinnett County ARES Lifetime Member: ARRL/QRZ/eHam/GARS/ARC -- -- Curator of HamPi, the ham radio software distribution for the Raspberry Pi --

Installed HamPC on an Evolve III laptop 3
So this took a few more hours but looks to be considerably better (faster, more stable, and more portable) than running from the USB live image. This took two USB keys - one 16-32GB (Linux Mint) and one 64GB (uncompressed HamPC image) 1) I used Rufus (Etcher probably works as well) to create a Linux Mint bootable USB key and then booted from that (ESC until given the BIOS menu to select boot device). 2) From there I inserted the second USB key into the other USB port (one on each side) and then opened the Disks tool (LM menu -> Accessories -> Disks) and selected the 64GB drive that is installed ("Biwin SD Card" in mine). 3) At the top right of that window is three dots on top of each other - I clicked on that and clicked "Restore Image" 4) I navigated to the .img file and selected it and clicked on "Start Restoring..." 5) Made a cup of coffee and enjoyed a few of the old (good) Looney Tunes reruns, then rebooted when it said it was done. 6) I had to boot into the BIOS one more time to change the boot order so that "ubuntu" was the first choice. WiFi worked right out of the gate, along with the Broadband card (if it has an active SIM in it). Audio isn't working yet so I am looking into that - could just be trying to output to the wrong port). Will update the list if I come across the cause and fix for that. WD0FPE
