Re: S-38B Power Consumption
Don,
Australia runs 230VAC 50 Hz but typically measures around 240VAC. The arrangement you described sounds like our wiring. The system we use is called MEN or Multiple Earth Neutral system in that

Re: Hallicrafters S-107 Very First version...Not the MK1
Digging in more on this S107. Finding more and more that have been done wrong. For some reason when it was recapped, the person used a .02 mfd electrolytic cap (C53..I think it is on the schematic)

Re: S-38B Power Consumption
Ron,
Do Australia houses use a hot wire, + a grounded neutral, + a safety ground [three prong plugs] so will you use a three prong plug.
an auto-transformer should be more efficient.
How do you

Re: S-38B Power Consumption
Hi folks,
Thanks for the good information on the current drain of the S-38B.
My intention is/was to use a Triad Magnetics TR6-120 transformer that has a 230VAC or 115VAC input and an output of 120VAC

Not sure that a higher VA rating is really necessary for this small of an isolation transformer.

The Vintage SSB Roundtable meets every Tuesday night at 7:00 PM CA time.
Early check-ins start at 6:30 PM.
Frequency is 3895.
It would be wonderful to hear some of you on from the Halli group!

There is a vintage ssb net I ran across a few months back and it is not brand specific. Have to page back through my scratch sheets to find the info. Think they were followed by a Heath net. Someone

Re: S-38B Power Consumption
Ron,
I just measured my s38b and it draws 208 mA with a supply voltage of 121
VAC. I think I would use a transformer with a good safety headroom. Maybe
50 VA so it doesn't get hot.

S-38B Power Consumption
Hi folks,
I am restoring a Hallicrafters S38-B receiver and want to add an isolation transformer. So that I can select the correct transformer, I need to know the actual current the S38-B draws. I

Re: Off-the-wall question
I bought an XM receiver at a hamfest a few years ago. It was "open". To use it, you tune your FM car radio to an open frequency and simply listen to it. No hardwire necessary. I assume they still work

Hallicrafters S-107 Very First version...Not the MK1
Working to restore a S-107. This is the first version with the 6SC7 tube before they went to the 12AX7.
I can only find a schematic for the MK1 & 2 which use the 12AX7.
Someone has done a half hearted
