I came by these tubes from a friend and now SK.
Some are exotic looking and most will be hard to find references to.
Price is $1.00 each for my dusting them off and packing plus shipping cost which I estimate from $5 to $15 each.
The first list is:
RCA JAN CBC810
RCA VT136
GE JAN-872A
Eimac 4-65A
RCA JAN CRC-3529
GE JAN CG-2C40
Eimac 7034/4X150A
The next list, in a day or two, will have more easily referenced tubes.

Re: Sprague capacitors variants

I have been examining the US EPA documents about PCB oil used in condensers. Sprague is stated to have used a PCB oil with trade name Clorinol, Cornell Dubiler used Dykanol, Aerovox used Hyvol, and Sangamo used Diaclor. This is from Table 4-3 on page 4-11 (Image 67 of 346) of .

The only type of condenser produced by Spraque which contained Clorinol that I could find were AC condensers used as motor run/start capacitors. Curiously at least two of this type of capacitor are still available for sale on EBay (for example Sprague OVD-4300 30 MF 440 VAC).

One of the comments from which I found particularly interesting was: “Worked at Sprague electric in Vermont as a designer in R and D. The Black Beauty went through many iterations, i.e. dielectrics, insulators, encapsulation material. While they look the same their properties are quite different, and their construction; i.e., winding of the foils, the mandrill size, and tension foils overlays dielectric thicknesses, all made up the voltage and capacitance and frequency ratings the encapsulation material effects. Most were made to customer orders and specifications while there’s some (which were) generic their specifications were very broad.” So Sprague Black Beauty capacitors were a trade name for a variety of tubular film capacitor types of varying electrical and material properties that evolved over their life time.

Re: Exotic Tubes #2

Hi, Skip

FYI - that Tung-Sol '4832' tube is likely a 4B32,
a Xenon gas equivalent to the 872A mercury vapor rectifier.

The 3BP1 CRT was used in the Central Electronics
model MM-2 transmitter monitor.

Thanks Jacques

Nice that there are lots of catalogs, but as it work on my machine, CTRL-F? does not work for me, so I gave up for now.

Have you seen “black beauty” on any metalized caps?, I am just going by the magazine ads.

?

Another related thing, is vitamin Q. In reading many ads, I keep on wondering what ?vitamin Q is. They certainly don’t make it clear, but the Hi temp keeps on raising the question that maybe it has PCBs.

Then I ran into this very long legal/financial document? which hints & raises more questions ?

?????? ?

Attached is my marked-up copy of the top part , but I don’t know if I can send it thru.

Re: Exotic Tubes offered.

Hi, Skip

I could use the RCA CBC810, if still available.
(Actually, I could use a pair if you have them).

Is Paypal alright, or I could send a check if you prefer.

For your info, the VT-136 on your list is the 1625 tube
(like a 7-pin, 12 Volt 807), used in Command sets.

The 872A is a big mercury rectifier used in the Johnson desk KW
and Collins KW-1.

The RCA '3529' may actually be a 3E29, a once-popular VHF final,
same as an 829B.

P-2000 Power Supply for SR-2000 FOR SALE

Edited

Newbie here. Thanks for welcoming me and I hope this post is appropriate.

?

Not tested, requires evaluation to determine condition and desired restoration. This is from the estate of a long-departed SK and idle for over 30 years. I have kept it sleeping and have not applied power for any evaluation. I understand it will likely require recapping.

?

Visual Inspection

It is complete and in good cosmetic condition. All components above and below chassis appear original with no visible deformities or arcing. Two cables have been added that extend out and terminate in RCA plug/socket connectors. This appears to break out the speaker with the ability to loop back providing choice of internal or external speaker. It has a 230V line cord/plug with a 115V adapter and is wired for 115V. Photos attached.

?

I will not ship this 60-pound boat anchor. I will be attending Dayton this year and could deliver it there, along my route or it’s available for pickup in Minneapolis, Minnesota. Asking $700 or best offer, COD.

Dave, if you move the carrier point you are just changing the pass band.? Not the frequency.? This would be like adjusting a PBT on icom or shift on yaesu. Only it works on TX also.??

On this radio and others, there is a shift of tx frequency.? If you tune in a station, when you tx you will be off freq when you reply.??

I thought about a pot.? You could put it up top on a bracket for easy adjustment. But I decided on fixed value.??

I have a few hours of talk time on this radio now and get good reports back. Thr rx and tx is within a cycle. Thats gokd enough for me. This should be a standard fix for all the radios in this series.?

You will need to calibrate the vfo center after this change.? Set cal pot to middle. Set dial to 0.? Then adjust the slug on bottom of vfo for center.?

This tweak reminds me of that Carrier Point feature. Makes me think one could substitute a 10k pot for the fixed resistor and have one more adjustment to tinker with....;-)
