Re: SX-111 Crystal Calibrator


 

Have only worked on a couple of those and one did have a faulty calibrator with an obvious problem. A previous tinkerer had broken the plastic envelope of the crystal and then tried to repair it with some red rubbery gunk. Crystal operation was then intermittent.

Don't remember now exactly how I got it going again but think I eventually did. The crystal is housed in what looks like a standard octal tube but with a plastic envelope rather than glass. If it is not damaged, you could try carefully pulling it and cleaning the socket pins with de-oxit. When removing it only hold the base and not the envelope itself.

Could also lift the entire calibrator unit and cleaning the socket pins for that may help. Otherwise there is not too much to the circuit except for the CAL switch itself.
