Power Sensor Calibration Labels 6
Hello, Does anyone know which label type/model was used for the power sensor calibration table on the backside of the sensor? I am trying to find some labels that are similar with those but without any luck. I measured the label on the 8481A and it has around 55*27mm. I am not sure how were those printed because they seem to be a laminated type and the table seems to be printed on the inner layer. Doesn't look like they were printed on a standard laser printer. Are those thermal labels? Thanks, Razvan

Tool to remove "fancy" BNC nut (0590-1251) 4
Does anyone have a tip to remove the BNC nut described in the manual as a "fancy" BNC nut? HP part (0590-1251) This is on the front panel of the HP5334B counter and I want to be careful not to mar the surface. None of the sockets I have seen to fit. I thought a 9/16" would work but it doesn't.

HP 3456A repair/restore 3
Hi all, I recently got a 3456A with a missing power button/knob (some of you may have seen my attempts to source a replacement, still not conclusive), and getting some bench space I thought I'd pull it from the shelf and testing it in a bit more depth. One other issue I'm seeing is with the keyboard (which, from some preliminary research here and elsewhere, may be using the "Bill West Switch" design), which works, but the actuation feel is not very firm or "clicky" (which I can live with), but (which I can't live with), pressing a button returns a long chain of actuations - meaning that if I press "6" to enable to 6.5 digit mode, I get "666666" on the screen. Trying to get into 100 NPC mode is a Zen exercise (or maybe, better put, karate... I need to make my pressing .001s long to get just a "1"). I assume this is purely mechanical (needing maybe some cleaning of the keyboard contacts?...). For some reason, the Keysight provided Operating and Service Manual is missing the Section 4 and further in its TOC (can anyone provide the missing pages, please?), which seems to be the case for other sources (though I haven't yet looked into Artek), and so I'm sill perusing the manual to find directions for accessing the keyboard for servicing. But regardless, I wonder if this is a common issue and if some good pointers are available from those having been through this issue. A search in the archives for 3456A doesn't return much, though I think I need to dig deeper for the "Bill West Switch" posts which seem to be plentiful. Thank you in advance for all input! Radu.

Keysight 33522a Binary Arb Files 2
Hi Alex, I used a demo version of Benchlink 33503A Pro to create triangle wave files in *.wvf, *.arb, and *.barb formats. For the 33522A, the waveform will appear on both channels simultaneously. A homemade diode power sensor for HP meters 109
Hi guys, as you all know, the HP 435A, 436A, 437A and so on are quite nice power meters and the meter itself is availabe at quite low prices. However, the power sensors are quite expensive. I own a 8481A and a 8484A, both in nice and working condition, but I don't want to damage anything so I treat them like raw eggs and handle them extremely careful. So I always thought whether it would be possible to make a own diode power sensor which is compatible to the HP 436A. This would have the advantage that the 436A could be used (and therefore its HPIB capabilities), and if it works with the 436A, it will do so also with the other meters (and possibly others, I don't know). Further, the homebrew power sensor would be cheap and if it breaks, no matter, it can be repaired easily. So today I spent a few hours on making my own power sensor. I checked the schematic of the 8481A power sensor, and I did basically the very same. I came up with this schematic: (I don't want to waste valueable web space for the group, so I uploaded the high resolution pictures to my webspace) https://hb9fsx.ch/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/20181117_173101.jpg The letters on the right side are the connector pins for the HP 436A, of course. Then I made a quick 'dead bug' style prototype, as follows.... (please don't laugh at me :-) ). https://hb9fsx.ch/wordpress/wp-content/uploads/2018/11/20181117_170657.jpg I connected to the 436A and I also installed a SMA 30dB attenuator at the input and connected my power sensor to the power reference of the 436A. At first, the readings were quite off a bit, but using the little trim pot on my PCB, I was able to precisely adjust the gain of my sensor such that the reading on the power meter was exactly 0.00 dBm. I then connected a signal generator to the power sensor and tested various power levels between -10dBm and +20dBm. Incredible, but my power sensor was accurate to 0.1dB! I also tested different frequencies between 1MHz and 2.6GHz. The flatness was not extremely good, but between +/-1dB. So, basically, the concept seems to work. I also tested different ranges for the power sensor - there is a 'mount resistor' inside the HP power sensors (8481, 8482, 9494, ...) which tells the power meter which range the sensor uses; the meter then internally adjusts the gain according to the power sensor range. It appears that it should be possible to home brew such power sensors. However, at the moment, I have two issues: a) the auto zero function does not work - even if I run the autozero feature, the power meter afterwards displays -13dBm anyway, so I cannot properly zero my power sensor. At the moment, I do not understand why this is so. Has anyone on the list an idea? b) I don't understand exactly how the amplifier using the NPN transistor works. When I was adjusting the gain of my sensor, I tried to change the collector resistor (330 Ohms), but this had almost no effect on the gain. The emitter resistor (1k Ohms) also had only little effect on the gain. Only when I placed the pot where it is now I was able to adjust the gain in a wide range. So it basically looks to me like this amplifier is a common emitter amplifier, with the gain being RC / RE, is that true? why then is a feedback from the emitter required to the meter? Thanks for any hints, tips and so on, Tobias HB9FSX

HP83732A/HP83712B ALC correction data
Hi, the HP83732A and HP83712B signal generators apparently have a built-in ALC correction that apparently can be modified by the user. The programming manual documents this error message: Else, there is no documentation about the CAL-command. Does anybody know or suspect how the seven parameters are to be interpreted? These must define some kind of level correction curve. Background: I have a dead low band detector and obviously the homebrew replacement has a somewhat different characteristic. Also, the HP calibration software is not available. It would be nice to get the box calibrated again. Tom DG8SAQ P.S. Is there really nobody out there who has an HP83712B and made a backup copy of the EPROMs?

HP 4193A Vector Impedance Meter - Looking for info on the special Adjustment Board
I have a working 4193A with probe. I went through (nearly) all adjustments, but gut stuck on the ALC Ref Voltage Adjustment (A13) and the IF BPF Gain/Phase Adjustment (A12). Both adjustments call for a special Adjustment Board 04193-66564. I was not able to find any information on that extender board that obviously has switch on it. I would appreciate any information on that board. While all adjustments performed so far were right on the money, I really would like to get everything set up correctly. Thanks, Herbert

E4402B SA power problem - need DC socket connections 10
I have an E4402B spectrum analyser with an odd power fault. The SA powers down after about 10 minutes, but works fine up until then. (It has been working well in the past but has been unused for a year or two. I want to try powering it from 12V DC to see if that makes any difference. Does anyone know the polarity of the two-pin connector on the rear? And I assume that no-one has rea;l schematics for this unit. I can't find them anywhere. The service manual has just block-level detail. And could a failing Snaphat battery on the CPU board have any effect on powering up and down? It's 7 years old according to the sticker. any help gratefully received! -Jeremy

54831M Booting Problem 3
I'm working on restoring my 54831M, but have run into a weird error. With the original Win95 (maybe 98, don't remember which one its on), I can't get it to boot past the Infinium splash screen. I have tried using the OS recovery CD that is Agilent software version 2.20, but that is giving me the same result. It appears to boot into Windows alright, but does not advance past an infinium splash screen, no menu, nada. The PS2 keyboard I am using freezes up, even the numlock/capslock go unresponsive. Switching the drive over from my 54832B allowed it to boot into XP and I do see waveform acquisition data at least (although it is very slow/laggy to navigate). The front panel buttons and lights do absolutely nothing here even within the selftest menu of the Win XP 54832B drive, and I am not sure if it is a Win XP driver problem or a hardware problem (since I cannot test it in 95). Are there any drivers I maybe need for Win XP that differ from the 54831M and the 54832B which I don't have? Or is there something else likely to be the problem here. I'm thinking there might be a chance the HDD is cooked, although it seems to test ok using a USB IDE adapter in Win 10?

HP 4957A Protocol Analyzer - looking for disks
Hey all, I'm playing with an HP 4957A protocol analyzer and looking for some of the software that came with the ISDN/T1 pods. I know CuriousMarc has some of the standard disks but curious if anyone here has disks for some of the other pods, such as the HP 18281A BRI ISDN pod? Also looking for software/restore disks for Agilent J6803B Network analyzer as well. Thanks, Jeff
