DON'T bend the tabs, no matter how desperate you get. I once had an HRO receiver where a previous owner had bent the tabs to get perfect tracking at the 50 kHz calibration marker frequencies.

I thought you did have the datasheet for the HexaWave HWF1681RA MESFET - I found it right away. With that, you can tell which pin is the gate, and also approximately the desired operating conditions.
