Machinable Potting Material ???

Greetings,
I'm trying to save a couple old plastic knobs that have stripped set screw threads, that don't have brass inserts.? I remember reading someplace about a machinable potting material that is easily flowed into a mold.? I've tried JB Weld, but it doesn't flow well.? It has a tendency to leave void areas.? I want to drill a new set screw hole and hand tap it for 4-40 set screw.?
I remember seeing some discussion on potting material on one of the groups I read, so I'm asking for help.? Any advice will be appreciated.? I will also post this to some of the other groups I read.

Just a side note,

Back when I, and others, were slurping Yahoo groups for archival
reasons, Yahoo network administrators observed the change in their
traffic, figured out what was going on, and implemented countermeasures.
Slurping, is, after all, against the terms of service.

What they did is set up filters, probably snort, that measured timing
of requests for messages from individual IP's. Initially, if the
requests were too fast for a human to have done, they put the IP into
a timeout jail, and it would 404. So, we slowed down our requests,
after all, patience is a virtue. Well, then they noticed that our
requests came like clockwork every second.... So, into the timeout jail
for requests for messages that came every second. So, the scripts were
changed to allow the user to insert a random repeat rate... And, Yahoo
decided if multiple requests from the same IP came at the same interval,
into the timeout jail for you! In the final version of the script, the
requests were made with random spacing, so yahoo decided that people
that sat at their terminals 24/7 were bots, and into the timeout jail.
So, next comes breaking up the requests into 2 or 3 hour sessions....

I lost interest...

Yahoo doesn't want you to slurp *their* data. It is against their terms
of service, and they are actively working to prevent it. More actively
than they are working to maintain reliable service, it would seem.

One possible explanation for why may take a little longer to
slurp the group then they once did.

I, however, wonder when Yahoo is going to change their strategy from
using snort to block bots, to using the DMCA, or other legal means?

Here's something a little out of the ordinary for this group.

I'm trying to track down any information on the serial and/or gpib
commands for a late 80's HP 5980a gas chromatograph. Normally, there
would be an associated programming manual or the codes would be listed
in the reference manual. Not this time.

Through much wailing and gnashing of keyboards I have managed to track
down a list of 2 letter serial commands from a NI website and through
the wayback machine a description of an open source python program
from called 5890 Remote Panel. Unfortunately the
program itself was not archived and the site seems to be offline now.
I did find some text describing the general format of the commands on
that site in the wayback machine.

The site also had a reference to the HP/Agilent document 19242-90120
which describes a GPIB/RS232 interface card for the instrument (and
presumably the command set). That document does not seem to exist on
the Agilent site or anywhere, really.

Bonus if anyone knows what the HPIL command codes look like
or even if they are the same as the serial commands.
The instrument I have has the HPIL interface right now.
I really do not want to pay more for a GPIB/RS232 board
than I paid for the instrument though, so we'll see what
I end up with.

There is a usb/HPIL translator floating around although
it's PIC based.

Given the cost of HPIL cables, or even the parts if you want to make up
your own, the serial route may be best.

There are a couple of purported drivers for the 5890, but no
source that could be used to extract the command set that I can find.

I probably have enough hints to make some progress, but if
anyone has any info or pointers I'd much appreciate it

The ultimate goal here is to cobble together a gc-ms for
drinking water analysis for the rural area that I live.
I was looking for a full instrument set, but I stumbled
across this gc at my local university surplus store and
it looked in really nice condition, which is a rarity
and, even better, it was cheap.

Still looking for the mass-spec part.

thanks

BTW, some time today, while I was playing with Thunderbird, the ikons in the function bar changed! I did not get a notification that it was updating itself. I wonder if anyone else had this happen.
I'm asking here because there seem to be a lot of Thunderbird users here and also a lot of computer literate people.

I tried to find a tutorial that explained the function of each line in detail but could not. I think such a thing probably exists but did not show up on a casual Google search.
Firefox also has a very extensive set of configurations. I have changed things a couple of times but mostly leave them alone.

Re: Too many Messages!!

There is a Thunderbird plugin, Remove Duplicate Messages by Thorsten W. Schmidt (mine is at version 0.1.14)
which will kill true duplicates.??? As I said in another message, the meta tags are all different between the posts
here that appear to be duplicates from subject, time, author, etc. So the plugin correctly doesn't recognize
they are dupes.

There are many which are truly duplicated, but not as many as you'd think.

"Preferences" has been there since v1.0, fifteen years ago. It's got
to be there somewhere. Do you have an "Edit" pull-down menu?

Dave...
Thanks for your efforts to improve life for all on this group. I'm sure it is a time consuming endeavor.
If the service had to be down for even a week, no one on this list is going to die as a result so I would hope that there would be no griping to be heard about that.
Finally, if Yahoo isn't supporting groups like this anymore, why would they bother to make it difficult to 'slurp' data. I'd expect them to be glad to see lists go since they seem to have been working overtime to discourage users of their free service anyhow. This is a rhetorical question so I really don't want to see a bunch of (or even one) attempt at an uninformed explanation or opinion. It want add any value to the list nor fix any problems. Would merely degrade the signal to noise ratio.
Onward,Dave!
