FWIW its??? dead simple. Thunderbird (52.9.1) =
???Tools - Options - General(tab) - Config Editor button on 3rd pane down (Advanced Configuration)
then type/scroll to what you want. Typing 'dup' gets you there quick!

There is no "address bar" in Thunderbird (at least not that I see) . You
might be confusing this with Firefox where in indeed ABOUT:CONFIG indeed
takes you to the "labyrinth of customization"

Can???t you go straight to about:config just by typing it in the address
bar? Or is the preference change needed to enable editing? ??? Cheers, Kuba

1) Click on the three bar thingy off on the right that says
"Display the Thunderbird Menu" when you hover over it.
2) From the menu, click on "Preferences"
3) From the preferences screen click on "Advanced"
4) On the advanced screen click on "Config Editor"
It will say some malarky about voiding your warranty, click on
I accept the risk, and it will open a window About:config
5) In the search bar at the top of about:config, type:
"mail.server.default.dup_action"
Right click on that entry, and select modify from the menu.
Modify it, and do the usual close save stuff.

and keep over
