Re: How the transition from Yahoo to groups.io will take place - exa
Dave...
Thanks for your efforts to improve life for all on this group. I'm sure it is a time consuming endeavor. If the service had to be down for even a week, no one on this list is going to die as a result so I would hope that there would be no griping to be heard about that. Finally, if Yahoo isn't supporting groups like this anymore, why would they bother to make it difficult to 'slurp' data. I'd expect them to be glad to see lists go since they seem to have been working overtime to discourage users of their free service anyhow. This is a rhetorical question so I really don't want to see a bunch of (or even one) attempt at an uninformed explanation or opinion. It want add any value to the list nor fix any problems. Would merely degrade the signal to noise ratio. Onward,Dave! From Tom Holmes, N8ZM |

Caveat: my last windows was XP, since MS refused to sell me an upgrade when they discontinued it. Since then I believe they've reverted to the directory structure from the MS implementation of Unix (i.e. Xenix, with foo's files are kept in /users/foo), so my presumptions may be outdated. |

For TB version 60 start with no messages opened. At the top is a row of functions, one is "Tools" Click on Tools At the bottom is "Options" click on that. I will open a window At the bottom of that is "Config Editor" click on that. The configuration setting will open in a list. There is also a search window at the top right where you can type in the particular setting you want. When you get to the setting click on it to highlight it and right click to open another menu which will allow you to toggle the setting. "Tools" is also available by clicking on the three-bar ikon at the right of the search window on the main page. On 8/17/2018 3:26 PM, Artek Manuals manuals@... [hp_agilent_equipment] wrote:

[hp_agilent_equipment] wrote: Yes I have an edit pull down menu . No Options or preferences listed asYes. Microsoft users are accustomed to having their choices disappear out from under them. ;) (I'm sorry Dave, I couldn't resist!) They are, however, built from the same code base. There are differences in the resultant builds, but they're mostly for platform consistency, and such differences tend to be small and mostly cosmetic in nature. In this case, if you still want to pursue it, I would suggest going into "Options", and if there's an "Advanced" tab/section/panel/whatever, look on there for a button/choice/etc called "Config Editor" or similar. The variable+value pair based options management system is deeply ingrained in the way Thunderbird (and Firefox) works; it's not really possible for it to simply not be there. It's just somewhere else, and not easily found in your version, it seems. -Dave -- Dave McGuire, AK4HZ New Kensington, PA |

Nowhere ( so far in the windows 60 version ) under EDIT,??? or the hamburger Icon does the word preferences appear.??? There is an OPTION choice under TOOLS but no choices under <TOOLS><OPTIONS> that I see for filtering dupes Without getting into a windows vs Linux debate the two versions are clearly different . Thank you Chuck & Dave for attempting to assist although apparently the Linux version has at least one feature ( not surprisingly) that differs from the WINDOWS version The multi message problem seems to have gone away today...even if it hadn't it has taken me less time to hit the <DEL> key than searching for Alice in this "PREFERENCES" rabbit hole :-P -DC manuals@... Bit of the ordinary: command ref for old GC
Here's something a little out of the ordinary for this group.
I'm trying to track down any information on the serial and/or gpib commands for a late 80's HP 5980a gas chromatograph. Normally, there would be an associated programming manual or the codes would be listed in the reference manual. Not this time. Through much wailing and gnashing of keyboards I have managed to track down a list of 2 letter serial commands from a NI website and through the wayback machine a description of an open source python program from hellonull.com called 5890 Remote Panel. Unfortunately the program itself was not archived and the site seems to be offline now. I did find some text describing the general format of the commands on that site in the wayback machine. The site also had a reference to the HP/Agilent document 19242-90120 which describes a GPIB/RS232 interface card for the instrument (and presumably the command set). That document does not seem to exist on the Agilent site or anywhere, really. Bonus if anyone knows what the HPIL command codes look like or even if they are the same as the serial commands. The instrument I have has the HPIL interface right now. I really do not want to pay more for a GPIB/RS232 board than I paid for the instrument though, so we'll see what I end up with. There is a usb/HPIL translator floating around although it's PIC based. Given the cost of HPIL cables, or even the parts if you want to make up your own, the serial route may be best. There are a couple of purported drivers for the 5890, but no source that could be used to extract the command set that I can find. I probably have enough hints to make some progress, but if anyone has any info or pointers I'd much appreciate it The ultimate goal here is to cobble together a gc-ms for drinking water analysis for the rural area that I live. I was looking for a full instrument set, but I stumbled across this gc at my local university surplus store and it looked in really nice condition, which is a rarity and, even better, it was cheap. Still looking for the mass-spec part. thanks -- Paul Amaranth, GCIH | Rochester MI, USA Aurora Group, Inc. | Security, Systems & Software paul@... | Unix & Windows |

64 or 32 shouldn't matter, it is just source code. Compile with a 32 bit compiler against 32 bit libraries, and you have the 32 bit version... 64bit compiler, 64bit libraries, the 64 bit version. This isn't microsoft. In the mozilla suite, the same thing can be had by putting about:config into your navigation window... though not in thunderbird. I have the linux version of thunderbird, 52.9.1 I left clicked the /// thingy, and up came the list of items, among them is "preferences". When you hover over preferences, it opens another list, the first item in that list is "preferences", I left clicked it. Along the top of the thunderbird preferences screen is a selector line full of icons, go to "Advanced" and left click it. In the Advanced preferences window there are 3 buttons, the bottom being labeled: "Config Editor", I left clicked it, causing a warning screen to pop up. I accepted the risks, which brought up the "about:config" screen that I mentioned above. I searched: "mail.server.default.dup_action". which brought up the preference name, and I right clicked, which brought up a list, with modify as its first item. Modify brought up a window, showing the old value, 0, and allows you to enter the new value, 1,2 or 3. After which you click "ok". -Chuck Harris Artek Manuals manuals@...
