Re: Fake fire New

I too expected that electronics professionals and hobbyists would be above that sort of nonsense and would refrain not only from indulging in conspiracy theories and political rants, but also from posting them in electronics groups/forums.

Unfortunately I was unpleasantly surprised by the postings in sci.electronics.design, and it appears some people would like that to spread to here.

Would everybody please discuss anything resembling politics and conspiracy theories elsewhere.

Enough said, I fervently hope.

It's a sad reflection on current circumstances that this is itself nearly a political statement.

Re: HP 8341A sucessfully FIXED!

Wow. Nice work, Tobias. Sometimes we learn the most when things seem hopeless. Your reasoning was right that there was nothing to lose by taking a chance on opening the YTO, and you came up with a great alternative to get around the problem.

I hope you plan to keep that web-page available - it's a good story and resource with good pix of the YTO innards, for future reference. I'd recommend you also post the images to the photos department here.

Greetings,

I have been reading some of the posts regrading the inaccurate reporting regarding the Keysight plant in Santa Rosa.

While I find inaccurate reporting as disturbing as most of us, I must also note that I am growing weary of this ongoing discussion.

I am taking the time to add to this conversation to suggest our efforts and energies might be put to better use if we can discover how we might help Keysight employees who have suffered loss as a result of these fires.

I know of at least one Keysight family who lost their home and possessions.

While it is reasonable to believe that most of the material losses will be covered by insurance there is, without question emotional loss and perhaps we can send some simple, yet supportive and encouraging gifts, to the Keysight campus for those that suffered losses.

Regards,

Ken

HP 8341A sucessfully FIXED!

开云体育

Hi all,
probably some of you have seen that I had some problems with a 8341A. It was indeed the YTO which failed! But, I was incredibly lucky to fix the YTO.
I also did a front panel RF output retrofit on my machine.
Some pics of the YTO and stuff can be found on my page, if someone is interested :-)

Now I can proceed to my next project, a 5342A frequency counter (hopefully not a blown sampler) and a 8568B spectrum analyzer with blurry focus on the graticule.

Best

The signal is being differentiated, as if it is being coupled through a small value capacitor.? I would first look at the attenuator switch contacts on those particular v/div settings for an open or high resistance.? In other words dirty switch contacts.

Re: Fake fire New

Please please keep politics and conspiracy theory rhetoric away from this group.

If I want rants and abusive postings, I can find gobs of them on sci.electronics.design, surrounding a few technical gems. At least one of the (other) contributors to this thread can be found "over there".

Although it isn't directly relevant to this group, one of the good things about working at HP was that any such statements would have been quickly and effectively stamped on. That contributed to a pleasant working atmosphere.

If it ran then failed after a little time I would tend to suspect a tantalum capacitor is shorted or shorting.? Keep that in mind when troubleshooting.? The guide might get you to the proper area then look carefully for burned caps or other components before digging in super deeply.

All,

I have a probe for the Boonton 91 just about free for the asking. It is a
model 91-3C (electrical condition unknown - if you know how to test, tell me
and I'll do it) with no screw-on tips and with a section of the cable taped
for a few inches; it was probably attacked by a rogue soldering iron back in

flat-rate. Let me know if you're interested.
