Hi Dave and Jim, thanks for the emails. I do have the R3767BH manual, what you sent Jim was for what I assume the slightly more recent "G" version. Thanks anyway. Alas no info gleaned from a scan of it.

And Dave I had no idea, thank you!!!
Much appreciated all who took a moment to write.

Hi, Jesse.

A friend has a similar VNA, and for some reason I have the manual. I
didn't see anything in the index about setting the time and date, but I
could have missed it. Here's a .pdf if you don't already have it.

Hi Stan, there isn't an enter key, but there is X1. No dice, it is still
Jan 1 1970. Tx for the thought tho!

you need to press the Enter key or its equivalent (e.g., Hz, x1, etc.)
after you key in the new value. Otherwise, the value will not be updated.

HP 652A Dial Calibration

After having the lubrication sieze the dial mechanism so tightly I could hardly move the dial on my 652A, I disassembled, cleaned, relubricated, and reassembled the entire mechanism. Naturally, I lost what synchronization the dial had with the tuning capacitor so I performed the dial calibration steps in the manual.

In the X10 range, I was able to get the endpoints virtually spot on; however, some of the integer points on the dial do not track within the tolerances given in the table in the manual. Oddly, at "10", the frequency is almost exactly 10.000; however, at "9", the accuracy deviates rather noticeably (maybe still in calibration but well more than I'd expect) and at many of the midpoints, it is out of tolerance.

While the manual gives the acceptable deviation values at various points on the dial, I'm not seeing anything that states what to do if those don't meet the specification. I know this subject has come up with regards to other signal generators (e.g. the 606, etc.) and "bending the fins" or "slipping the dial" have been suggested as possible solutions. Given that the manual already covers the proper method of slipping the dial (to get the end points set), I'm not sure that would apply here and I really, really hesitate to get into fin-bending as this cap has somewhat smaller fins than, say, the ones in a 606.

Anyone familiar with this and maybe have some suggestions as to fix it?

Thanks,
Barry - N4BUQ

hello Stu if you look on A2 on the side you see the LEDs for the PSU. All should be LIT. I am sure this is not a PSU issue.

If you work through the 300/600Mhz chain with an osilloscope you can check where the signal dissapears. I remember the 600Mhz is made in a doubler and if signal is too small you have not enough for doubling to 600Mhz.

Reason why you can?t measure anything is because the 600Mhz is used for third mixer.

Re: Calibrate a 431c with 8477a?

Hi,

Thanks. Yes, I live a little bit far away from your place.
I have a 431C with a 8478B head. It seem to work, and shows sensible
values, but I have no information on its state of calibration.
Unfortunate the 8402 is rare here and buying overseas from eBay would
cost disproportionately more than what the whole setup is worth. But
it still would be nice to have some assurance on the indicated values,
and this is why I asked about the 8477A, as I could get one cheap from
a local source. But now I read in details and it is clear that the 432
and the 431 is different, so most likely the calibrator is different.
Although it may be worth to get 432 as the head is the expensive
stuff, no the meter itself.

Calibrate no, get close probably. If you only have one head and a sig gen you REALLY trust you could run the cal procedure. It would be a good/reasonable indicator but not calibrated. You really need to do the meter with the range calibrator.

I used to have one but it lives in Eagle Point Or. with a friend of mine. If you were domestic I¡¯d try to get and then do the cal for you.

A/B 23 goes to service sheet 23.
This is the -5.2 V regulator and fan driver.
There should be a 2 Amp fuse on the input of this board.
