John,

Thanks for the comparative data, Since you've obviously researched
this stuff; how do the noise floors compare?

Tks John,

Is there another HP model you would recommend
as something really interesting instead of the 3561 ?
(radio ham pocket, ebay etc)

Yes below 10Hz is of interest :-(
If you have the bench/rack space, you might consider the 3562A or 3563A,
which have similar bandwidth and ADC limits as the 3561A but give you two
channels and some nifty firmware features. Otherwise I'd have to know
something about your application. If you can use an I/Q multiplier of some
sort to upconvert whatever you're measuring to a frequency within a stereo
sound card's usable bandwidth, then the sub-10 Hz limitation may not be a
deal-killer. (Plus, I believe some of the higher-quality sound cards do
have DC coupling options these days.)

I don't think HP built any FFT analyzers that went beyond 100 kHz that are
affordable on the used market now. Could be wrong about that, though.

A combination of both. The December 1984 HP Journal has a good collection

Sound cards can be much better performers if you don't need sub-1 Hz
response (most aren't DC-coupled) or the missing Nyquist headroom afforded
by the 3561A's higher sampling rate (256 ksps versus 192 ksps max for most
sound cards.) The 3561A's 13-bit dynamic range, single input channel, and
limited record length are its Achilles' heels.
The real difference is in software support. You can do a lot of useful DSP
analysis work with sound cards that would be impractical with a 3561A.
3561As are unusually well-designed and packaged, so they will always appeal
to the compulsive collector. :) But for the most part, you would only *use*
one if you needed to run legacy applications like the 3048A package.

Re: 332A balance pots

I should clarify - I mean only to break the seal so I can open the pots, thoroughly clean everything out and then close them again. I would not do any cutting without then stripping the pot!

Not so simple !

It is the defective in mainboard !

Hi Tony,
I'm not too familiar with this instrument, but doesn't the front panel of the 8559A have a Frequency Calibrator button to correct the errors between the displayed and actual frequencies?

Hi Steve,

I currently have an E4422b on my bench, and have found it to be very good. The unit I have has various modulation sources including a function generator, and the performance of that is excellent , I would certainly make room for one on my bench at home. It would replace at least 2 boxes there, so the XYL would be pleases :o)
The unit also includes sweeps of frequency and power.
Yum !

Arthur, no I'm not in the USA. I'm based in the UK.

I understand what they do, but I don't need that function, and would happily
sell them on to a new home rather than scrap 'em.

(though I don't think that using them for a project qualifies as scrapping -
they are very nice boxes).

dont scrap it
they were designed to logrithmicly compress a signal
before going into a chart recorder if you dont like it maybe i
can buy it from you.
are you in the usa??

I tried to upload Lothar's file in the files section, but it was not

So I have provided a link to it on my web site. I have also added some more

This would be useful, and I must admit that I had missed the original

I notice that the file space for the list is pretty much full, and
probably
needs to be weeded out. Might try uploading to another site, like
Didier's.

Part needed for a HP 6227B Dual Power Supply

Greetings,

Does anyone have a parts hanger queen that can supply a switch. It is the
Volts/Amps slide switch, part number 3101-1288, a 3-pole - double throw
slide switch.

With fingers crossed,

Foot Assy for hp_equipment

For my opinion, the "HP Feet" are a mis-construction.

Maybe a good idea, a cheap solution, but in fact bullshit.

Re: Foot Assy for (Re: 7562A Log Voltmeter/Converter)

I spoke casually; I was just distinguishing between the three (known to me)
System I sizes. An example of narrow is the 400C/E/F/G. Then you have
the medium size, which is a bit more than 1/3-rack.
You can't fit three, but two leave a big gap. (And finally of course
the full-rack size.)

Sorry,

Dave, you describe these as 1/3 wide, but only two fit into a 19" rack
adapater (they came out of one with p/n 5060-8764).

Or am I missing something here?

That cabinet design is known as System I, as are the feet,
but the only size
that's commonly available is the single.
The seven-inch bar for the 1/3-wide cabinet is rare; I'm also
looking for
two for my 5210A Frequency Meter.
In the meantime we can use generic stick-ons, but we'll have
to do without
the bail.
