Yes, Daun has it right. The 8566 A responds both to the Basic command set and MATE/CIIL language. It also deletes the battery - military did not want settings retained when unplugged. There might also be a 321.4MHz output on the back of the RF section - sma-f conn. Most of the E option units were for the US military.
