That type of capacitor was used by HP in the K79-0981C diode test set, that uses similar circuitry to the 540A/B for the CRT power supply and one similar looking .25 1000V capacitor.
In the diode test set the capacitor labelling appears the same, the brand is different in my 540B, but it's still the same type, an oil filled? paper capacitor. HP part number is 17-16 or 0160-0081.

That "CP55"-etc is a military part number.? If it was a standard HP part, it would be marked with an HP number, if it was numbered at all.? Like another poster said, look on the instrument ID tag for an "H" modification number.

On the downside, H mods aren't well documented - you may never know anything about yours except what you reverse engineer.

I have an HP 5245L counter (1436A26554).? I have looked at the Keysight changes for my serial number and cannot account for the chassis-mounted capacitor shown in the photo.
The mounting bracket looks very "official" for what it's worth.
1. does anyone know if this is a "real" modification?
2. if so, what does the capacitor attach to?? This is quite important as one of the two terminals has nothing connected to it.
Thanks!!
