Abend codes
Where can I find a list of abend codes and what they mean? (I'm not an MVS person!)
I am seeing in a MVT log someone sent me a "0C7" abend code. What does that mean? I seem to recall that the last digit ('7' in this case) is the Program Interruption code? Yes? Thus: 0C1 is an Operation Exception (Yes?) 0C4 is a Protection Exception (Yes?) 0C7 is a Data Exception (Yes?) Does anyone have a web page or a document somewhere that lists these abend codes? Or am I correct in that only the last digit is important, being the Program-Interruption code. What if the Program-Interruption code is greater than hex 10? Such as a Special-operation Exception? (code X'0013') or an Operand Exception? (code X'0015') What would the abend code look like for those? Help! :( -- "Fish" (David B. Trout) Software Development Laboratories mail: fish@... |

Do you have to open the port in the Windows 11 firewall? It's a default setting. It does not show in the compose window. So the device owner is not aware of it until someone complains. They then have to decide if its easier to ignore the complainant or figure out how to turn it off. Probably the first is easier. On my Android the second is a pain. To get to the settings I have to scroll past all my folders (there are a few) to get to the setting cog and then find the setting.... With my current e-mail setup, I can't even access my personal e-mail from my phone. Re: OT: "Sent from whatever device I am using."
Hi Fish,
On 01.12.2023 13:20, Fish Fish wrote: (OFF TOPIC)There are two reasons in my mind: 1) Free advertising for device manufacturers. When you buy a new iPhone or Samsung device, they set the signature to "Sent from my iPhone" or "Sent from my Samsung Galaxy" or something along those lines by default. They figure (correctly) that a large percentage of people won't bother going through the settings pages, finding the spot a couple layers deep where you can change or remove that. So... the device makers get free advertising. 2) I change mine on my phone to "Sent from a mobile device." No free advertising for a company I paid hundreds of dollars to, but still communicates context to the recipient. I don't often send emails from my phone, but when I do, they don't reflect my usual attention to detail or thoroughness. Typing long-form content on phones isn't ideal, and they tend to change your words ("auto-correct") without you noticing, and I'm less likely to fully explain my thoughts because I just can't be bothered to try to type very much on a tiny on-screen keyboard. Whether it actually has an effect on recipients or not, I see the "Sent from a mobile device" signature as a subtle plea that really reads "please don't judge me too harshly for any typos in this message, and if I sound rude or terse please understand it's probably because typing on phones is horrible so I'm trying to make it quick." Maybe I'm just crazy but that's my thought process :-) -Matthew |
