It's set to moderate new members, with unmoderate after 1 approved message. So that seems to imply that the member will stay at 'Allowed' instead of 'Normal' unless I put them back and moderation and

Rick, What is your default group moderation setting?? If it is Moderated, then yes, the only way to set someone to unmoderated (Can Always Post) is the Override setting you used. Cheers, Christos
