As it turns out, I'd inadvertently begun (but not correctly) a transfer when signed in under a separate "member" (but not owner) email (which I did in order to? see what members see, the better to write some user instructions for them). That transfer request was stuck because the destination group name was incomplete and couldn't be corrected, but Mark responded to my support query, and the transfer process has actually begun.
