If you are new (or newish) to Groups.io as an owner, you should check out the help for new group owners. It is part of the Help center. This document acts as a quick reference to the more detailed Owners Manual, Members Manual and Glossary. And it is arranged in steps that walks you through the setup procedures. A group for SERIOUS group owners
This GroupManagersForum is founded in the tradition of the GroupManagersForum ( https://groups.yahoo.com/neo/groups/GroupManagersForum/conversations/messages/2 ) on Yahoo! Groups. Attachments are allowed and the judicious use of screen shots and other illustrations is encouraged. To prevent malicious attachments, avoid spam, off-topic messages, and certain kinds of spoofing, ALL messages sent to GMF are moderated. Despite these measures, be aware that the bad guys are clever so there's no guarantee that we'll always succeed; you are encouraged to be vigilant against any and all threats arriving via email. Your GMF moderators make no guarantees regarding the safety of emails arriving from this or any other Groups.io address. Don't post JUST to advertise your groups. Listing your group in your signature is perfectly acceptable, just make sure there's content in your post. Do post something about being a Groups.io group owner, moderator or member. What suggestions do you have for improving Groups.io? What works for growing your group? When is it a good idea to create an unlisted group? How do you manage the role of owner on multiple groups? A member in my group is not able to access our group. He’s listed in the “bounce list”. I sent him a bounce probe several times but he is not receiving the system email telling him how to “unbounce” his account. I don’t know how to help him now.

From this week's Changelog: April 24, 2025: NEW: Free groups that have not previously done the free premium trial can now do so by going to the Upgrade page under Admin -> Preferences. In one of the groups I manage we recently introduced mandatory hashtags, although members can create their own hashtags, rather than having to choose from a predefined list. The assumption was that the most common hashtags would prevail, while odd ones would fall by the wayside. In reality we ended up with more than 300 hashtags, many of them not particularly meaningful and only used once. I assumed there would be an option to list hashtags by frequency, but this doesn't seem to be the case, as evidenced by the attached screenshot. In other words, the only sorting options I can see are "Name" (i.e. alphabetical or reverse alphabetical) and "Duration" (not sure what this actually does). Without an option to list the chaotic plethora of hashtags by frequency, the system doesn't seem particularly useful for our group. Am I missing something? Thank you. I have a member who is moderated. Email delivery is individual. When she replies to a topic and sends, this is what I receive as a message: no summary available I've never seen this before. Thoughts appreciated. Thank you. Brenda Sindorf

Hello GMF members I often save a draft message to work on later before publishing it. I also often insert images into my posts but when a message with images is saved as a draft, and I then reopen it to edit, I get a warning like Why is this and more importantly, is there a workaround to get drafts to save images? There is something about the way I am signed in to my group account on the iphone that reveals only owner/mod options when I want to reply to a message in my group. From the website I can get what I need—reply to sender Can anyone help me unscramble this? Thanks

Invitations sent

An invitation was sent, and shows up in the activity log, but does not show up in the invitations sent. When trying to sort invitations sent, it does not seem to be sorting them properly. ugarrett

Opting OUT of a new Subgroup - can it be done?

I'm flummoxed with this one. I want to find a way to be able to create a new Subgroup and send the Invite to all members of the Group. But I want to make it clear and easy for anyone NOT INTERESTED in the subject of the new Subgroup to Opt Out of it. If I understand the process and flow properly, any New Topic/message/reply sent From a Subgroup topic/message will go to all Subgroup members. Non-Subgroup members will not even know that the message existed unless they go into the Subgroup and read/reply to it. I haven't found anything in the Owners Manual, or Member's Manual, or GMF that seems to address this, though I think I saw something alluding to it a while back. Simple outline: New Subgroup - Cruising and Vacations (themed to share specifics on these subjects) with an Invitation Sent to All Members of the Group. Note/disclaimer in the first paragraph - "If you are NOT INTERESTED in further emails on this subject you can OPT OUT of this Subgroup by (fill in with the instructions); you will then NOT receive any further messages on this subject. If you would like to share your, and other's experiences on these subjects then Reply to/Contribute to this Subgroup messages. If you would like to (re)join this Subgroup at a later time, you may do so easily." Further explanation for those who do not have any Subgroup knowledge or experience - "This Subgroup is intended to put like-minded and interested members in contact with others who think and do things of this nature. The idea is to share good and bad experiences, information and knowledge on the subject, and ideas." Then I would add in a 'first shot' detailing some of the experiences of a cruise we just returned from. I've actually already created the Subgroup, I just want to let the Group know about it. And, specifically, knowing (some of) the Group's tendencies to resist MORE emails for any reason, I want to make it CLEAR that there is an immediate and complete way OUT right now. Thanks for your brain power in hoping to find an answer.

I have a member of a small group that I own who is having trouble logging in. I've copied her entire message here. I suspect that it's a problem with her browser, but I'm not sure. She's an older lady and not very good with technology but I'm hoping I can help her find a solution. I'm not the most technical person either, but I'm hoping someone here can help. My group is a Legacy enabled Basic group, if that makes a difference. Thank you! Can sponsorships be recur annually?

Hi -- I have a person in our group who told me she got a notice that there will be an annual charge for her sponsorship of our group made to her card in 3 days (she made a sponsorship payment about a year ago). She didn't intend to make a recurring sponsorship and doesn't remember doing that. How can I cancel that on her behalf? I can't figure out how to do it. Thank you, Kristin

Auto Notices (sender address?)

I have manually sent welcome notices (from a list of pre-written notices) when we get a new member, and choose +Owner on the message FROM pull-down. I am automating it but do not see an option how to specify that it be sent from the +Owner (rather than “me”.) i.e., there is no pull-down to choose which sender when composing/updating the saved Notice. Will it ALWAYS be sent from the +Owner or am I missing something obvious to make that happen? Thx!

What is a "locked" subgroup?

What does "locked" mean? Does it mean that new members can no longer be invited? Due to budget constraints I need to downgrade to free. It says my subgroups will be locked. Can I invite new members? Can I delete existing members? I have been searching through the manual ... cannot find the answer. Thank you for any help. Otto

Pileup at Storage Limit! Now what?

A member was uploading a stack of PDFs, a dozen or more, multi page. I had told her it was OK because I thought it was. Suddenly a NO MORE ROOM alert!! The Old Attachments Auto-Removal switch was on, and I'd not received an 80% warning. My guess is that the space filled too quickly for the fail-safes to kick in, so my instinct is to sit tight to see if it fixes itself overnight. Is that reasonable? Or, should I start panic deleting on my own? Thx, Laurie

Requiring name on sign up

Is there a way to require new people signing up to include their name? I run an open group and some people only include their email address. No first or last name. Thank you, Karen
