Is there a way to limit how many posts a member can make in a day?
5
Google AI says there is: =================================== Yes, on Groups.io, you can limit the number of posts a member can make by adjusting the group's "Message Policies" settings, which allows you to set restrictions like a maximum number of posts per day or a specific time period between posts. How to do it: Access Group Settings: Go to your group's settings page on Groups.io. Navigate to Message Policies: Within the settings, find the "Message Policies" section. Set Limits: Here you can set rules like limiting the number of posts per day, requiring a certain amount of time between posts, or other moderation options. ==================================== BUT I cannot find those controls. This is in reference to a small 77 member free group. We have a few people who can't seem to control themselves, worse get uncivil about it. Don't want to deal with moderation

Message with JPG attachment saves attachment as WEBP in Message Archives
3
Yesterday, 2025-01-28, a group that I am a member of received a post which had an attachment on it. ( /g/MFCL/message/105719 ) The attachment was a JPG file of approximately 260 Kb. My membership is set to receive all attachments, and the attachment shows in the message I received as a JPG file, and it opened fine on Irfanview on my desktop machine. [ Win11Pro. Firefox, OEClassic Pro Ver 4.9.3, Irfanviex Ver 4.7 (64 bit) ] However, groups.io saved the attachment on the web page (presumably in Photos) as a WEBP file. People who don't accept attachments and prefer links to open them from the web were somewhat concerned because someone stated tht WEBP wasn't as secure of a format as JPG. An extended discussion followed. I'm curious if this is usual or if something has changed. I still have the original in my inbox, but the file on the web site was deleted and replaced with the JPG file I had reposted. Does anyone have any answers regarding this, or is it something I should take to Beta? Dan Stinson

An anomalous ownership status flag
5
I thought I would solicit thoughts here before posting to beta or support ... I have Mod status in the main group of a premium group. I am also a member of a subgroup but in the subgroup membership list there is (as expected) no flag against me. However, in that subgroup, on the left in the web interface I see the flag "Owner" up at top against the Home link. Looking around, I do indeed seem to have owner capabilities in that subgroup. This may just be a database discrepancy that Mark could fix but if anyone has any idea how this might have come about I'd be pleased to hear! In a different group (legacy free with subgroups) I have a subgroup which I am not a member of and when I view that subgroup, against Home I have the flag "Parent owner". I cannot though see how being a "Parent moderator" would show up as an "Owner" flag in a subgroup. best, Malcolm. -- Malcolm Austen -- malcolm.austen@...

Pending Messages

#messages
I am a new owner of an old group. I need to check pending messages 4-5 times daily. I use iOS 18.3 and Windows 10. How can I get a link that I can add to home screen on the phone and save as a bookmark on the PC. I have tried copying the URL when I have pending open on the PC and using that URL on the phone but it does not open to showing the pending messages or even showing admin. TIA

Message Recall Failure: Recall

A member of my group used the "message recall" function and now group members are being bombarded with notifications with "Message Recall Failure: Recall" in the subject header. Is there any way to stop this?

Freezing a Topic but Allowing Reply To Sender
7
I am considering allowing limited personal sales by subscribers of my groups subject related personal completed models, surplus kits or model parts with the enforced condition that the members must only reply to sender and complete their transactions outside of Groups.io. Currently if I freeze a topic after reviewing the initial message and finding a sales message, the reply to sender option is no longer available. I don't want to have to require the original sender to include their email address in the message. Is what I want already available in the current group settings or will this require a software modification. I could not find how to accomplish this process described in the documentation. thanks -- Ken Adams Plastic Freight Car Builders (PlasticFreightCarBuiilders.groups.io) Owner and Moderator

Different email address in invitation
2
Hi, I already have a groups.io account and am owner of one group. I want to set up a new group with a different email address in the invitation, ie not my groups.io account email address. So potential new members would use the alternative email address to accept the invite. Is this possible? If so how? Thanks

Removing a member
5
Greetings, I'm the owner of a group that has a set of requirements for membership. I'm cleaning house, removing members who have failed to meet those requirements. There's a possibility that one member may try to retaliate when removed. Can I remove a member without them being notified? AFAICT, the manual doesn't cover this.

ISP causing emails not to go through?

I have two members of our group that can't seem to receive emails. Each are the only members with the address of @frontier.com and @tds.net. Is there any sort of known issue with either of those? Thank you, Carolyn Henry

Viewability of subgroup by parent group members

Correct me if I¡¯m wrong: It is not possible to set up a subgroup such that parent group members who are not also subgroup members can view subgroup messages.

Calendar subscriptions Problems
4
#Calendar Is there a for individual members to not have calendar invites sent to them? Is there a way for calendar emails to be sent, but not .ics or other files that load into people calendars? A person left the group, but claims they are still getting calendar invites? Essentially can we have a calendar, with email notices, but nothing that tries to sync with people¡¯s calendars?

I think I remember an option when I first joined, to receive only the first message in each thread. I can't find anything now about how to set that option for myself. Can anyone help me? Thanks, Lucinda

Online Safety Act (UK)
19
A member of our forum has contacted me to ask whether there is likely to be any problem for us, or others like us, under the UK's new Online Safety Act, due to come into force next year https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/online-safety-act-explainer/online-safety-act-explainer (more info at https://www.ofcom.org.uk/siteassets/resources/documents/online-safety/information-for-industry/illegal-harms/overview-of-regulated-services.pdf?v=387540 ) He's anxious because he's seen other hobby/fan groups talking about closing down because they think it will be too difficult to comply, or prove that they comply, with its terms. I doubt a bunch of ageing cricket statisticians is the primary target of the Act, but as far as I can make out we fall under the category of a user-to-user service with user-generated content. Has anybody looked into the implications of the Act for forums on groups.io? All the best Harriet Monkhouse

Is there a way to keep track of who is unsubscribed
4
#addmembers
#subscription
Hi, I am the moderator for the groups.io community for a membership organization that has under 500 members. I appreciate so much about the functionality of groups.io but this one is stumping me. Periodically I update our groups.io member list by bulk-adding the entire list of emails of paid members to our organization, to our groups.io community. That's is a sensible way to make sure that new members and members who have used a new email when they re-upped their membership are added to the online community. Sometimes members choose to unsubscribe -- no problem, and my members are happy to use the automated "unsubscribe" link at the bottom of a message, that's fine. On other online communities where I've been a moderator, the system keeps track of people who have "unsubscribed" so that they cannot be re-added automatically by a moderator, but they can choose to re-subscribe themselves. Basically, their email addresses stay in the member database with an "unsubscribed" status. With groups.io, that doesn't seem to be the case -- if someone unsubscribes, their email address leaves the system. So, when I bulk-add the list of emails, they are resubscribed. Oops! I really, really don't want to have to keep my own separate spreadsheet of people who have unsubscribed, so that I can manually remove them from my bulk email list when I do additions. That seems like madness. Right now the only "solution" that looks at all viable to me is that if someone "unsubscribes", that I elect to send them an email saying, please let me re-subscribe you and set your account to receiving no emails, as that will have the same effect but protect both of us from annoyingly resubscribing them when I do my bulk updates. Does anybody else face this issue? Does anybody have another solution they are using or that they would propose, that involves as little ongoing manual maintenance on my part as possible? Thanks for advice.

Reverification Successful
2
I have a group that has not had any new posts (messages) for six months. Recently, the group has decided to be more active with posting. As a result, I've looked at the membership list to invite a few more members. While there, I noticed a couple members have the "RS" by their names. From reading Groups.io help FAQs about Reverification, it looks like I don't need to worry about the RS being by their names. Will the "RS"s go away eventually?

exporting data

Hi friends, 1. Is it possible to get a list of all topics in my group as owner/admin and export it? 2. Is there an easy way to make a printable list of a selection of messages including its meta-data and message-number and (if possible) a picture of attachments? Best regards, Chris

Question on Pricing - how are members counted?
5
We're currently on the basic, free account and considering upgrading. Our main group has about 300 members. We have 7 subgroups which have 5 to 225 members in each subgroup. These subgroup members are all in the main group of 300. If we upgrade to premium will the cost be based on just the main group members? Or on the members in the main group and all the subgroups even if there are many duplicate names? Thanks in advance for any help you can give!

using groups.io to do a survey

I seem to remember seeing once that Groups has a facility to do a survey, but can¡¯t find anything about it in the Owner Manual. Does the facility exist and, if so, how does one use it?

How to set one member to Override: moderated (Save Button missing)
5
Hello all. I've read the documentation on how to change a member from "Use Group Moderation Setting" to "Moderated" however, the process is not working as per the docs. Click Admin, then Members. Find or Search for Member, then Click the Member. Scroll down to Posting Privileges. Change Moderation as needed. Click Save. The problem is that the Save button does not appear: I do not want to 'send message' or 'ban' or 'cancel' -- I want to SAVE. What am I doing wrong? Thanks in advance! - Scott
