I think that they have to do it themselves. If they're unable to do it, you can ask them to send you an email me a login link, then you would be able to just go in and just change their entire profile

Andy gave you a link to the instructions. If during the process, you get a notice that the destination address already has a groups.io account and asks you if you want to merge them, *don't do it*.
