Came here to ask for it. As I recall Yahoo had thumbnails of recently posted photos, didn¡¯t they? I just looked and I don¡¯t see it.

We need to know when a new photo goes in since we can¡¯t sort to get that feature. With my Pinterest I can sort so albums with new photos are at the top, I like that!!

Sorry if this has been asked before, but we are in the process of abandoning Yahoo Groups and want to get our new Groups.io system set up as effectively as possible.

I want to impose a bit of message discipline on our members so that we always follow the "one message; one subject" rule.? Hashtags seemed a great solution, so I set the "posts must be tagged with at least one hashtag" option.

If I log onto Groups.io, and create a message from there, it forces the selection of at least one hashtag.? That's great, just the job.

However, if I create a message in my mail browser and send it to main@[groupname].groups.io and DON'T put a hashtag in the title, the message disappears into the ether.? It shows in my Sent folder, but is nowhere to be found.? I had sort of expected it to come into the moderation process so that a moderator would have to add a hashtag before it could be released to the members.? If you use this mail route, and DO include a valid hashtag in the title, it works as you expect and appears for moderation.

Am I missing something?? Thanks.

Re: Problem with Incredimail formatting (was: html)

Dave,

Note that I have enabled this group to send attachments as links.
There are 3 attachments, presumably to do with the border etc, so I
don't actually see the border. Yet another variable in the melting pot
Oh, good point!

But would that setting be applied to images embedded in the HTML of the message body? I mean yes they are technically attachments (if referenced via cid:), but replacing them with links in that case would break the rendering of the message body, unless a correction to the HTML were made that changes the images to html: references.

Another group setting I neglected to mention is "Max Size In Email" (Automatically resize photos that are larger than a specific size in emails). If set to anything other than "No resizing" that could disrupt message formatting if the formatting depends on the actual image file resolution rather than setting the display size via parameters to the image tag.

Re: Implications of letting people try a Groups.io #transfer

Matty,

Just a further question-many if our members have a Yahoo email address
to access the Yahoo Group but they have other email addresss which
they would prefer to use to access a new group. If they joined the
test Group.io what would happen if we then migrated?
They would end up with two subscriptions in your Groups.io group, one under the other email address they joined with, and one under the Yahoo address that was transferred.

As far as Groups.io is concerned, those two addresses are two separate people, and all of their transferred content (messages, files, photos, etc.) will be tied to the transferred address.

This is a bit of a thorny issue because there is currently no way to merge two accounts. Unless maybe support can do that for them.

So until there's a better solution, the work-around is for them to maintain two subscriptions in your group. One the "other" address they use for current posting and receiving, plus the Yahoo address which they can set to "No Email" and use only when needed to manage (edit or delete) transferred content. It will be important to maintain that Yahoo email address in good standing so that they can receive login or password-reset emails there in case they lose the password on that account.

A better solution, if it is not too late, would be for them to wait until after the group is transferred, and then change their email address to the "other" one. But if they've already logged in to Groups.io with the "other" address then it already has an account, and they won't be able to change the transferred account to use that address. That would amount to merging those two accounts, which currently cannot be done.

Hmm... I wonder if the influx of group transfers will be putting a lot of people in this position, and if that will motivate Mark to create a solution for them rather than handle them all manually through support. I hope so.

Re: Implications of letting people try a Groups.io #transfer

Jonathon,

If Example@... currently delivers email to
address@..., then [email protected] will send email to
address@...
Which is just another way of saying that the email addresses in the Yahoo Group's Manage Members list are copied exactly to the Groups.io group's Members list.

I do not know what happens when Example@... does not
deliver email.
Members' subscription settings are copied along with their address. So selections like Individual/Digest/NoEmail should remain the same for each member.

I don't know how to tell Groups.IO that email for example@...
should be sent to address@....
There isn't a way to have that happen automatically, but if you don't want to continue using the address you had used for your Yahoo Groups then, as Frances mentioned, you can change your address at Groups.io after the transfer has completed.

However, of the twenty or so YahooGroups I subscribe to, that migrated
to Groups.IO, none of them provided that information.
If you are subscribed to more than one Yahoo Group that transfers to Groups.io things can get confused if you change your Groups.io email address after some groups transfer but before other groups do. In that case you'll end up with two Groups.io accounts, one under each email address, and there is currently no means to merge those accounts together (though maybe support can do it for you).

If address@... currently receives from Groups.IO, then
[email protected] is automatically added to their current list of groups.

I don't know how to tell Groups.IO that email for example@...

any group migrating from YahooGroups to Groups.IO should include, as

Re: Missing messages

I believe some states have anti-spam laws that require a site to quit sending to a recipient when they are informed that the recipient has flagged the email as spam. I would guess that Y! is complying, but their emails just aren¡¯t flagged as spam as often.

Re the incredimail fanfaron, I looked at the html of the sample. I¡¯m not a human html parser, but I¡¯ve done some work on XML standards. HTML parsing and interpretation is not as standardized as one could wish, and parsing in email tools is even more uneven. I pity Mark & Co for having to deal with it. My recommendation for an easy life is to avoid fancy stuff, but that¡¯s a matter of taste.

I think a question like this should be sent to [email protected] If it's a bug, Mark will let you know and fix it, though it may take awhile based on his recent posts about all the transfers happening. If it's acting as he intended, then you could suggest a change on beta@ for discussion.

Members can use whatever email address they want. And it is easy to change or update it. Additionally members can have a second (alternate) address as well.?
Check in the top right of any group, including this one - click on your name and you will see the change email address. Click to open the Email Alias section to add an alternative address as well.

Re: Closing chats - moderators? #Discussion

I'll pop it over to beta. Frankly, it's pretty useless as it is. Only an owner can manage a chat in any form.
Thanks everyone, at least I know that it's not me missing the forest for the trees.

Re: Closing chats - moderators? #Discussion

¿ªÔÆÌåÓý

Thanks for bringing this up. I ran into the same issue yesterday when testing the chat feature in a subgroup where I want to allow any subscriber to start a chat. I realized that, when setting the ¡°chat¡± field to ¡°Subscribers¡± under Settings and logging in as a regular subscriber I would see the ¡°New Chat¡± tab on the Chats page but not the control box (with the edit/close/delete menu) next to a specific chat.? That the initiator of the chat wouldn¡¯t be able to edit it or close it seemed puzzling enough. What I had not realized is that not even the moderators are able to manage the chats. That is even more puzzling. Looks like something that should be brought up.? I am new to Groups.io but would be happy submit the question to [email protected] if that is the right place to go to.

Thanks Duane - that was my thought as well so at least I know I'm not off the rails on that.
But - I'm helping a group transition and we're "in training". I've got one gal doing great learning to be a moderator, but for the love of us she can open but not close a chat. The gray management box that should open in the chat title list just isn't there. We've put her into two different subgroups and it's the same thing. If I make her an owner, then she gets the options box.

I've gone back to both her settings and the group settings to double check everything, and that's when I stumbled (in group settings) that the control says "who can START new chats - doesn't say anything about "managing" them. As strange as it may seem, it would appear that it's on purpose and only an owner can close or delete, given that statement.

Hmm, sounds like that 'permission' might be worth asking for on beta@. Or maybe follow the setting for who can start one? Or maybe it's a bug and is supposed to follow it already.
