Digest Header Size
#featurerequest
Is it possible to reduce the vertical size of the Header on the Full Featured Digests.? The thick header pushes the links to the messages off the bottom of the view window in Thunderbird and one has to scroll down to see the links.? A 25% reduction of the header (banner) would make for a more useful Full Featured Digest. I am reluctant to recommend the full featured digest to our group members when so much real estate is taken up by the header.

editing topic/message - message about the change sent?
When editing a topic (subject line of a posted message) does it send a note to the member whose post it is, and/or to the group? And when editing a message (side point - why can't you edit message and topic at the same time?) - I see an option not to notify the group, but is a message sent to the member who posted it? And - if a message is indeed sent in either case, is there a way to turn it off? Thanks Sally |
Re: New UI instructions?

I took my new GIO adventures and wrote them into a group wiki.?For example, a post in today's digest described how to use the database for importing a list of links. So I take things like that and put?it in our group's wiki.?Much of GIO is intuitive and I have found the GMF wiki indespensible.
I feel it really depends on what your group's needs are. Not every group needs complete information on the full gamut of GIO features. I our changing environment, as beta requests are completed and roll out, a manual (except for the basics) becomes less useful.? I own a personal family group that I created after leaving FB almost 2 years ago. The only instructions that were needed was on posts, logins and digests options.? I co-own an international sewing group that makes use of wiki for tuturials. So in addition to the above they also needed a wiki how to.? And under this email address, I moderate a volunteer group on a national level that needs all the above plus how tos on (group required) signature, (GIO vs Group) profiles, (optional) member directory and our files and databases.? In learning much of that, I have been very grateful to this GMF group. While I would have made substantial use of a technical manual, I have discovered the majority of those in my groups haven't any questions. They seem to prefer learning only what they need to use. Most have never even logged in. They seem to prefer using email to respond and even that has been sparingly for many of them.? -- Sandi Dickenson Moderator of ASG Volunteers Group |

Perhaps someone else has a suggestion about what is going wrong. Not really, but I am puzzled. Frances; you suggested that members might be sending from a "wrong" email address, but I don't see how that could be the case unless Allow Non Subscribers to Post has been checked, and I cannot see any mention of that. Posts from non - members should on the face of it simply be rejected. However, I am also puzzled by the sentence Sometimes, members can send messages to each other, no problem in Ann's original query. As written that means messages from one member to another not involving the group; was that meaning intended? I suspect not but clarification might be helpful. Ann; I suggest that you have a look at your Activity Log; find it via Admin > Activity as that will enable you to see what is being posted without hindrance and what is being held for moderation and the addresses from which each message originated. I would also suggest revisiting all your Settings just in case something has been checked by accident. Chris |

I suggested checking your Settings, and realised that there was something else to include as soon as I had clicked "send". The setting so far considered has been the Group Moderation Setting, but it is possible that individual members have Posting Privileges that override the group setting. I suggest that you use the Activity Log to identify a member who submitted a post that was put in the moderation queue. Then go your your Members List and find that person's entry in it; click anywhere on their entry other than the check box. This will take you to that person's "personal" page; scroll down to the bottom of the page just above the Save tab and other functions, and your will find a section called Posting Privileges. The 3rd, 4th, 6th or 7th options will one way or another result in that members having posts held for moderation, sometimes temporarily until they have submitted a predetermined number of posts. Edit and Save any setting that is "wrong". You are the owner of the group; are you the sole moderator? If not, and there are others with moderator permissions, have another look at your activity log to see if they have been "tinkering", and if necessary smack wrists. If there are no other moderators then I cannot think of any reason why some of the individual member's settings might be a bit rogue, unless your group is an import from Yahoo in which case their settings will have been imported as well. Is there a way to correct the "Uploaded By" name for Files? As Frances noted, the only way to change a file attribution is to download the file and have the person who owns it re-upload it. I note that all files that are jpg files did not in fact get transferred from Yahoo. The file name is shown but there is no file. Should this have been expected?Go to Admin>Settings>Features>Files and see if the "Allow photos in files" box is checked. If it's not, that's why they aren't there. You might be able to get at them but checking the box and saving your changes and then seeing if they actually did transfer, but I wouldn't hold my breath. By the way, JPG images in the files area will not automatically display as thumbnails or slideshow images. If you click on one, it might display then, but that depends on your browser settings. Is there a way to correct the "Uploaded By" name for Files? You say that you want to change file attribution. If it is should be your file, you can download it delete the record and upload again. ?
Groups.io can transfer message archives, properly owned and properly threaded, (without attachments, however), photos, files, links and databases.
Calendar entries are not copied at this time.
Subscribers (members) are also transferred, maintaining their subscription options and ownership of each message and other group content.
Links get transferred to the databases. (You must enable Databases in Admin to see them.)
