Is there an ongoing problem with delivery to hotmail? We have a complaint from a Hotmail subscriber who has received no group email for a week. His and other hotmail addresses show "Queued mail for delivery -> 250 2.1.5" response in their delivery history.

Response code 250 indicates successful delivery. Your member may need to look in his spam folder or other folder he might filter email into. If he can't find the email, he needs to talk to Hotmail. It's not a GIO problem.

Art,

My status here is that my invite to "transfer@... " (twice) has
never been responded to.
...
Should I start over again??
That depends on what the In Process page for your transfer says. If it says the invite has been received then you just need to wait for notice that the invitation has been accepted. Revisit the In Process page from time to time to check for any new status messages at the top.

Re: transfers from yahoo groups - expected time to completion? #yahoo #transfer

Jim,

According to what you say here they system is not receiving the invite
from Yahoo.
That could be true. But you haven't answered my questions so I'd say that's just a possibility.

On the Start Transfer page, at the bottom is in bold letters is the
words In Progress. Nothing is in that little drop down box and never
has been over the two weeks I have been attempting to accomplish this
task.
Does clicking on it produce any response at all?

It should at least drop down an empty list (the top line of the list is always just that hyphen that you see when the drop-down is closed). If not maybe there's a problem with the browser you're using. That would be a bug to report to [email protected], but first you should try another browser to be sure.

If it drops down a list containing only that hyphen that certainly indicates a problem with getting your transfer "into the system". So far as I know your Y!Group address should appear in the In Process list as soon as you click the "Start Group Transfer Process" button below the checkboxes, before you've even sent the invitation.

I have been to the help page, been to this group and read everything I
could find and it has been without success. Oh well I guess it was not
meant to be.
Have you contacted [email protected] ? Ultimately that's the place to report bugs with the system.

Re: Hotmail delivery

Duane,

Queued mail for delivery

Those errors ...
As mentioned to Drew and Frances, those responses are not errors.

It shouldn't keep the emails from eventually being delivered,
In fact, it is almost a statement that the message will be delivered (diversion to Spam or another folder is also considered delivery).

though no one can be sure how long the delay is,
Microseconds to minutes is the range you should expect. Programmers often use queues to organize things; it doesn't necessarily imply a perceptible delay from a human's point of view.

and there's nothing GIO can do about it.
Not about those particular response codes, but there could be other issues going on with delivery to Microsoft-powered services. That's happened in the past and could require GIO's intervention to straighten out.

Frances,

MSN as well. Same Outlook error.
As I mentioned to Drew, 2xy is not an error - it is a success response.

Error response are 4xy ("try again later") and 5xy ("Don't try again").

Status codes 2xy are success codes. You should read "Queued mail for delivery" as meaning "I got it".

Deliverability to Microsoft-powered email services has been spotty or worse in the past, so I wouldn't be too surprised if there's another episode afoot.

Or it could just be that the member isn't checking his/her spam folder.

Re: Am I missing how to do this? i.e. I Need new member requests to explain why they are qualified to be approved #addmembers

360,
(interesting name - perhaps you could set a display name in your GMF group profile...)
There is no way to "require" that a request to join include certain information.? This has been discussed in the beta forum ->?
A "Pending Subscription" notice is sent when someone applies to join and you can put your request to email certain info in there.
Thanks
Toby

It took a good week for my transfer to come through, and I repeated the request 3 times. I think they're backlogged with everyone fleeing yahoo.

Re: transfers from yahoo groups - expected time to completion? #yahoo #transfer

Jim,

According to the transfer page it says that I should have heard about
the status and received a message in a day or two. If not to start
the transfer process over again.
A screenshot would help me understand what you're seeing. I don't currently have any transfers in process to compare with.

I have followed the directions carefully but no answers and nothing in
the In process box, ...
What do you mean by "nothing in the In process box"? It is a drop-box, you have to click on it to see the list of your transfers In Process. If you've clicked on the drop button and no Yahoo Group names appear then you haven't actually started a transfer. If one or more Yahoo Group names appear, click on one to bring up its "In Process" (status) page.

so I assume it is taking longer than what the page says.
So far as I know it takes no time for the site to put the Yahoo Group name into the In Process list after you click the "Start Group Transfer Process" button. Hence my desire for a screen shot, as I can't see how the setup page changes after clicking that button (without starting a transfer).

The original request was over a week ago and I have filed updates
to the request as directed.
If you've been clicking the Update Transfer button your transfer request that may be putting you to the back of the queue each time. But I think that button is only on the In Process page, which you say you can't find. So how is it that you "file updates to the request" and where is that directed?

It appears that the only way I will know if the invite is delivered to
[email protected] will be if I receive an email or some kind of post
to the Yahoo page.
A banner on the In Process page should tell you. See the screenshot here: /g/GroupManagersForum/message/10162

Can anyone tell me if there is a problem with my request or if there
is a longer delay than on the Transfer Page?
Aside from what you can learn from the user interface, only [email protected] can tell you anything about what's going on behind the scenes.

Thanks - appreciate the help, and will work on it. The spreadsheet in question has about 20 columns, but I tested with a few, and it imported easily.

Apparently, though, you have to include ALL columns when you set it up; you can't do them in stages. At least not in a way this techno-novice can figure out.

Re: database help #howtoguide

Terry,

Strange that you can't just upload an existing table, though.
Not really. You need to define the Type and other attributes for each column, and those can't necessarily be inferred from the csv data.

But I will agree that the UI could be a lot friendlier about it. And in particular it ought to be possible to import the table with a default column type and extract the column Names from the first row of the csv.
cf:

Or better still would be something like Excel's Text-to-columns wizard which allows you to interactively define the column types while viewing a preview of a few rows.

Can it be Yahoo has an easier system? Wouldn't have expected that.
Easier, but more limited in capability.

Re: database help #howtoguide

Terry,

I want to import an existing Excel file into the database of my group.
Any suggestions? Not seeing it working when I tried the import table
with a csv file.
As I recall the secret handshake is to create the table with column names that exactly match the text of (and perhaps the order of) the names in the header row of the csv file. As if that was obvious.
