Part number for L1 in Gemini-1 47uH 2
The schematic specifies 47uH, 0.7A. It¡¯s about 6mm square with a round bobbin. Could it be Bourns SDR0604-470KL? Thanks David

DSCs with tracking 3
Hi everyone, Would anyone recommend a DSC system, perhaps Nexus, that would work with Losmandy drive motors? I think I might prefer that to Gemini 1 go-to. Is one in better touch with finding objects, as I always had with star hopping, than go-to. Mark Whittier, CA

Worm phase changed, Gemini I L4 4
I'm working to get PEC set up and working properly for my MI-250/ Gemini I L4. Ray G. is providing tech support in the PEMPro forum, here's part of one of his posts: "It's probably best to ask on the Gemini forum, but if there is no sensor, then the Gemini would have to keep track of the last PEC index position when powered off and then restored. If the mount's PEC phase changes, it will no longer match the PEC curve uploaded to the mount, which could make PEC less effective or even worse than having PEC disabled." I've skimmed through the past couple of years of PEC posts in this forum and didn't see an answer to the specific question I have: what can cause the worm phase to change between different nights (mine shifted by ~24s)? Is there any way to "bring it back" (such as simply reloading the PEC curve I generated on July 20), or do I need to bite the bullet and make a new PEC run and load a new curve? Just to check my understanding, these are the things I can think of or have read about which would change PE (assuming you don't actually change one or both gears): Damage to the gear train Disengaging the worm/ worm wheel such that the worm meshes in a different place on the worm wheel Dirt or grit getting into the gear train If the mount/ controller has worm sensors, a malfunction of the sensor A firmware problem in the controller ...and problems other than changing PE: Bad communication between the controller and computer (so bad comms between Gemini and PEMPro), double check your RS-232/USB cable

Handcontroller touch action 2
Well, while using the gemini 2 handcontroller I touched/pressed the top line/display zone of the HC. It went blank and the next goto commanded on the HC led to a runaway slew necessitating a powering down of the gemini 2 unit. The warm restarted mount's first goto was nonsensical. After a fresh cold start and new alignment model all seems to be normal. I dont know if thats normal for gemini 2 ? But it was scary. Is this just me or what? Happened to others? GlennB

David Partridge is available to undertake repairs in the UK from September this year 2
As some of you will know I moved house earlier this year and haven¡¯t been able to take on any Gemini-1 or Gemini-2 repairs. I now expect that I will be in the position to accept work again in September this year or possibly a little earlier Please note well that if you are sending your Gemini from outside the UK, please make sure that the customs declaration clearly states that it is being sent for repair. If customs charge me when it arrives in UK, I fear that I will have to pass that charge on to you. I advise using a competent courier such e.g. DHL who do their own customs clearance. Gemini 1 Manual control of slewing 5
Im new to the Losmandy Gemini 1 and am just learning how to use it. The one thing I have found that I cant do is use the hand controller to manual slew my mount. I can do an align or select an objet from the data base and the unit slews to the correct position. But I can not use the hand controller to manualy move the mount for fine tuning. It is a Level 4 1.05. It is in sidereal mode and all slew speed. It comes up showing it is a G11, as it should. I have tried visual mode and still no luck at getting it to move with the buttons on the controller. Again, I am a newbie, so be gentle and kind.

Portable Li power for Gemini1-G11? 11
Is anyone using a Lithium portable power bank for a G11-Gemini1? If so, are you providing 18V as well as 12V and if so, how?

GPS for Gemini 1 6
Hi There, I'm replacing my GPS unit because the old one suffers from the GPS rollover issue. However, the PS2 connector is wired differently on my replacement unit, but I still wish to use the 4 pin DIN/ RJ11 lead from the original unit. I have had a look at the pinout diagrams in the Losmandy manual, so that side of things is fine, and I know where the +5v should go towards the new unit. My question: I'm not absolutely certain which pin is Rx and which is Tx on the new unit........if I connect up and they are the wrong way round, is there any risk of damage to the GPS or Gemini? If its just a case that they wont communicate if incorrect, I'll give it a try, otherwise.....not! Thanks Simon

Gemini 2 for sale 2
I have a Gemini 2 for sale for those interested. It is brand new, atleast in use. I bought it from Losmandy in Sept 2023 and have used it one time. Very soon after I bought it, I realized what was wrong with my Gemini 1 and fixed it. Not wanting to get into something new and to late to return it, it's up for sale. Asking $900.00 for it. It includes the computer, handbox and the cord...No motors included, Losmandy said I could use my existing motors. Please respond directly to wd4sel@... if interested. Pictures upon request. GPS for Gemini 1 14
I've been on the lookout for a GPS unit for my Gemini 1 with no luck. I do, however, have a couple Celestron GPS units laying around doing nothing, and am wondering - would one of those work? Thanks! Warren

Power cable 10
Hello all, I have a Gemini 1 controlled Losmandy G11. For reasons unknown, my power cable has gone AWOL. Losmandy has none in stock so I¡¯m going to have to beg, borrow, steal or fabricate my own. If anyone has an old or spare cable they are willing to part with, I shall be happy to pay costs. I am reasonably certain that I could fabricate the cable myself. Misfortunately, I don¡¯t have a wiring diagram or the part number for the Gemini end plug. It appears to be a 6 pin DIN. If this brain trust could supply me with said wiring diagram and part number for the plug, I would be most appreciative. Many thanks, paul

G-11/Gemini-1 Control via RS-232 and SkySafari SkyFi 4
Someone on Cloudy Night has asked me about how I control my G11/G-1 wirelessly via SkySafari. I see that the SkyFi wireless hotspot module is no longer being sold. What are his options? I occasionally control my mount that way. But sometimes I can't connect or lose a connection. But when it works, it can be very convenient for locating objects not in the Gemini database. Thanks, Russ

Gremlins strike again¡ 6
Hi folks i have not used my Gemini 1 L4 for quite a few weeks now. We had a power cut or two. One was three hours long and enough for the UPS to run out. That was a month ago. Today I went into the obs to clean up all the cobwebs and reset everything. I did a cold start, reset the home position and tried to park and I am getting intermittent motor stalls on both RA and Dec. Polite version - ¡®Oh bother¡¯. It is early afternoon here, 30 degrees C in the obs - I am sure that shouldn¡¯t cause an issue? Other thing I noticed is the clutches tightness seem very light (lighter than usual) which could be due to how hot it is? Has the power cut done some damage? thanks in advance¡ Regards Mark

Gemini 1 Level 1 System Not Powering On 7
I am working with the Takahashi FSQ-106 refractor and operating it with the Losmandy Gemini 1 Level 1 computer system along with the Losmandy GM8 mount. I am running into an issue where the system does not power on or display any messages on the LED display even when it is connected to power. So far, we have tried replacing the CR2032 lithium battery, but this did not resolve the problem. Was wondering if anyone has experienced this before and/or has any troubleshooting suggestions?

Computer goes dead if I don¡¯ respond quickly
Hi all When I am booting up, whether cold start or warm start, my Gemini 1 if I don¡¯t enter the menu quickly, within 20 seconds or so, the hand control goes blank with no script response. I can still slew the mount, but have no access to the menu just a blank hand control. This is a new thing that just started happening last week

AR Gemini 1 motor screw info 6
Hi, I noticed that one of the screws that hold the Losmandy G11 AR motor tight (attached is an example photo), does not tighten all the way, i.e. it loosens but still grips, the motor however does not move, what could have happened, nothing serious? I had disassembled the motors a month ago to buy the monoblock for AR and DEC (pending).... But only now have I noticed it. Finally, what are the differences between Gemini I level 4 v.1.04 and level 4 v.1.05? Thank you. Regards, Thomas bianchi

I am getting DEC motor stalled during boot up with no buttons pressed. 3
And the dec axis slowly rotates to the left. Boot up never completes.

Not sure if Im doing this right via email so aplogies. Posted over on Cloudy that Im resurrecting a G11 Gemini thats been mothballed for a few years from my old observatory. Have it all cleaned up and running with Ascom/Stelarium and ready to rock. I have an off the wall/non Gemini question thinking its a simple question for guidance from some of the tech savvy.. Im wanting to fabricate my own moto-focus with a simple servo or stepper and a wired hand controller that would allow me forward and reverse with a knob to allow for speed control. Im not motor-smart but the rotary knob may seem to kill the servo (dont care).. I was envisioning a small 3D printed bracket with a motore and a couple timing pulleys and belt and a corded hand control with a battery. I know these are off the shelf available but they are spendy and I'd like to come up with a solution I could move between multiple scopes and additionally I own a CNC cabinet shop so have machining and 3D printing in-house I just dont have the motor/controller knowledge. Not looking for answers per-say but if anyone could point me in a direction to investigate the motor /control options it would be great. Looking forward to getting back into the hobby. I had a super nice JMI NGF-s on one SCT that I wish I'd never sold when I downsized but at this point Im headed for visual primarily but would like to have to moto-focus as Im going to be part of some public events and Id like to keep peoples hands off the scope(s) to simplify things. Thanks

Power supply - is 18.2V ok? 14
Hey everybody, I¡¯m a new-to-me G11 Gemini 1 owner. I have an 18V laptop power supply that¡¯d I¡¯d like to use to power my mount. It¡¯s actual measured output voltage is about 18.2V though. My guess is this is close enough, but does anyone know the actual max voltage we can use? I¡¯d hate to fry this thing if 18.0 is a brick wall. Thanks! Bryan
