Object Search in Gemini I 12
I had never tried the Object Search feature in Gemini I but decided to give it a try a few days ago. This is the feature where the mount should pan within a specified FOV to locate an object you think is nearby. However, when trying it (albeit indoors), the mount never really moved that I could see. If I put my ear up to the motors, I could hear them doing something different than sidereal tracking, but no obvious motion. It was almost like it was panning using something like guiding rate. Have others gotten this to work? Is there some setting I need to adjust to change the panning speed?

Portable Power Supply for Gemini 2 11
Hi! I would like to take my Losmandy mount to dark sky locations where there is no power. I'd appreciate any suggestions from the community for a good, basic portable power supply that works with Gemini 2. Thanks!!

Automatic Meridian Flip with APT
Hi everyone, so far I have been using APT (Astro Photography Tool) for automating taking frames, but I failed to promt a meridian flip. Has anybody actually managed to do this using APT and Gemini 2 Level 5 ? Would be great to have confirmation that it works in principle before I invest even more time to get it done. Otherwise I will switch to NINA, which has a proven record for this. Thanks a lot, Joerg

Question about Synchronize 5
With Gemini I, when building a model, you are supposed to use Synchronize for the first star and Additional Align for subsequent stars. I'm wondering why that is? If something special is needed for the first star, the firmware knows it is starting with a new model and could just do the synchronize operation itself when you tap Additional Align. I know this is sort of a moot point since the Gemini I firmware will not be updated. But it comes into play when building a model using SkySafari. It only has Align and so you can't do a Synchronize on the first star. When we wrote the SkySafari code I *think* we might have detected this was the first star and sent a Synchronize command rather than Align. However, I'm not sure. Anyway, why does the first star need Synchronize? I haven't run into other mounts that make a similar distinction.

ZWO ASIAIR Plus 16
HI I would be very grateful for any advice given. I have a old Losmandy GM8 mount controlled by a Gemini one, which has been updated with a new processor. I would like to know if anybody has used the ZWO ASIAIR plus with this type of mount and if so how did you connect it to the mount and what cables did you use? Thank you Ken

12v power for GM8 16
I'm new to this group and to Gemini. It's possible that the group has addressed this issue before, but I paged through lots of essages and didn't find any covering my problem. I recently acquired a GM8 with Gemini 1, Level 4. I like it because it is elegant and sturdy, a beautiful piece of machinery. I do a lot of outreach with the local astronomy club at schools and parks where there is no 110v power. I' ve done the Great Ammerican Teach-in for the past 15 years. In the past, I used a Celestron 17 A.H Power tank to power my previous mounts. But I understand that the GM8 needs more than 12 volts to work properly. How do I do that? Also, while at a school or other outreach event, I need to keep it simple and don't want the hassle of a computer or tablet to operate the mount, but would like to use the Go-To and tracking features of the mount. I'd also like to attach a GPS. How do I do that? I am 80 years old and have little knowledge or patience to modiify any electronics. I just want to do the basics. Most of the other people who do these outreaches use Dobs. Mine is usually the only refractor on an EQ mount. They arrive and are observing within ten minutes. Even with my old Orion Siirius, I'd still be fussing with it while they have kids looking through their scopes. But visitors usually say that my Stellarvue 105T has the sharpest and most contrasty views of all the scopes present. I love the look of amazement when otherwise blase kids see the moon, Jupiter or Saturn . That's why I own telescopes. However, I am beginning to fear that the GM8 may not be the best choice for this application. Please tell me I'm wrong. BTW, I also have an older G11 that I modified with the Avalon Instruments StarGo Stand Alone system. I replaced the original motors with very smooth and powerful belt-drive motors. It has a Go-To system with Blue Tooth and a usable hand controller . Currently, it has a Meade SN10 on it which is a great combination, especially with the exquisite Moonlite focuser that replaced the crappy original focuser. I had a local welding shop fabriicate a pier for it so that the eyepiece is not 7 feet in the air. In 2017, I drove it (and the Stellalrvue on the Orion Sirius) from Florida to Likely, Califironia for the Stellarvue Dark Sky Star Party. Unfortunately, this setup does not get much use lately because it it too big and heavy to lug around for 2-3 hour outreach sessions. I am eager to see any suggestions from this learned body of dedicated Losmandy and Gemini users. Cheers, Steve Gaber Oldsmar, FL

G11G onstep with ovision worm for sale.
Hello there I hope this is authorized, I have a G 11 that has an outfitted on step from Peter ~ it has an oh vision worm and a hand controller to allow for continuous motion. Peter has been working very closely with me and the mount guides wonderfully and he has even recorded its performance of the controller. I have a custom pelican case that both halves of the G 11 can stay in/be shipped in and it includes the captains wheels for the clutches. And the nicer thicker screws for mounting. I'm asking for 2300+ fees and 1/2 of shipping. It also has several additional counterweights. I live in Indianapolis and would be happy to drive 200 miles It is essentially a new mount! it has been cleaned and regreased as well, please reach out. 317-430-1010 Dawn

Polar Alignment 11
Please could i have some help. Can I polar Align with Polemaster and not through Gemini 1 handset ? How do I inform the Gemini handset that the telescope is now aligned? When I use NINA it says telescope not polar aligned. I would appreciate any feed back on this. thanks Ken

Gemini 1, not tracking to target object 2
I'm using Gemini 1 and NINA, when i input a object the telescope slews to the wrong part of the sky or points down to the ground, i am at a loss to how to correct this problem. I have used Polemaster to align the telescope on Polaris. when i input for the telescope to return to home with CWD it still goes to a incorrect position. When using the hand controller for Gemini 1 is there a button to press to confirm you have correct polar alignment as i find the handset confusing? I also cannot find out how to align the scope to a star for its initial alignment procedure. Thank you for any advice given as i am getting very frustrated with all these problems. Ken

Gemini one not functioning in cold weather 3
Hello all. I¡¯ve been having problems with my Gemini I in cold weather. I do solar Imaging in the mornings when temperatures are often around freezing. My mount and Gemini are at that temperature when I start up. What I¡¯m seeing is my Gemini tries to go through start up, but I get a crazy dysfunctional screen, where half the screen looks like it¡¯s trying to go through start up and the other half shows some nonsense. When I bring the whole thing indoors to room temperature, it seems to work OK. Is this more likely the hand control or the Gemini unit? The power supply seems to be working well.

Problems with controller data changing 9
I have a old Gemini 1 connected to my GM8 mount, the problem is the data keep changing all the time. I have put into the advanced settings the GM8 mount, next time i open the window its showing Titan mount, now its saying time on mount is different too NINA. Wen i open the window on my laptop for Gemini settings it shows the time is wrong and the mount local date as 01/01/2000. also my safety settings also seem to go back to default. What can i do to re install the correct data, as mentioned i am controlling the mount through my laptop not the hand controller, i find it easier to change the settings through the computer. Thank you.

PEC confusion 2
Cross posting from the MI250 Users Group: Sorry for the longish post, but the whole topic of properly using PEC has had me scratching my head. My setup is an observatory mounted MI250 with Gemini 1. I usually use Maxim/DL to autoguide, but have used PHD2 so I think I understand both. With my MI250/Gemini 1, I usually don't take astrophotos with PEC enabled. There are times when it would have been helpful, but I am not confident that I understand or am setting the PEC settings correctly. I hope some of the people who have used the PEC function successfully can provide their settings and some guidance on using PEC. Some topics which I am murky on include: Smoothing and/or Averaging the PEC data. Conceptually these two functions seem to do the same thing. I get that seeing causes the guide star to move around, so 'combining' multiple PEC training runs will tend to cancel out this 'noise' (a bit like how stacking increases signal and reduces noise in an image), but I don't get the difference between Smoothing and Averaging, and how these are best used. Do you use them both at the same time? Delay Correction. I get that this is supposed to deal with the fact that there is a delay between the autoguider image capture and when the correction is applied to the mount. This is caused by the time it takes to capture each autoguider image and maybe some minor delay in computing the centriod, then signaling the mount to move. What I don't understand is how to compute this correctly, and what sign (positive or negative) to apply to the setting. It seems to me that calculating this value should depend on the capture time of the autoguider images. For example, sometimes I guide with 1s exposures, and others I may use longer (2 or 4s) if the guide stars are faint, or seeing is bad (using longer exposures to slow chasing the guide star around). But I am confused how to calculate the delay correction, and what sign to apply to the data (as I recall the input wants + or - in addition to the calculated value). My guess was that you take your autoguider exposure time in seconds (say 4 seconds) and multiply that by the steps/second value from the table in 4.3.2.4 (26.74 in my case) to get the delay value (106.96), but I am not sure this is right, and don't know what the sign (+/-) means. Drift Correction. I think I get what this does - it averages all the PEC data to see if the mount misalignment is causing the guide star to drift in a particular direction, at a particular rate, and then applies a global correction to the PEC data to remove this offset. In my case, I have an observatory with a very well aligned mount, so I am assuming this that Drift Correction should not be necessary, unless the telescope axis are not orthoganal. The description however raises some questions in my mind about my assumptions about using PEC: Using PEC: With my observatory mounted MI250, my assumption was that each time I went out to image, I might run a new PEC training session while waiting for the camera to cool down and then Average and/or Smooth the data. In essence this would be improving my PEC data each time. I assumed that it did not matter what coordinates in the sky the object I trained was located, because PEC is removing mainly worm gear errors. I now wonder if this is right or wrong. My concern is the main ring gear which the worm gear drives. In my observatory setup, the clutches are usually never disengaged. This means that the worm gear is driving a different sector of the main ring gear when looking East that it is when looking West. So is this idea of reusing PEC sessions over a long term a bad idea because I am training on different worm/ring gear combinations? Would it be better to re-train the PEC each night on a star near where I will be imaging? For example, should I clear the PEC data, get my shot framed up, get the autoguider running, and then before imaging do a few training sessions? Lastly, Maximum Pulses just has me baffled. Maybe some can explain what this is and why you would use it. - Bill

Issues with GOTO and Meridian Flips 4
Hello everybody As of lately I kept having issues with GOTO and Meridian Flip commands (from EKOS / INDI) with my mount (Losmandy Gemini G11). The behavior that I observed: - Meridian flip triggers (still an exposure ongoing, it has to wait) - Once exposure is finished, meridian flip starts - Telescope moves extremely slow (as in Centering speed slow) during the meridian flip and moves in a wrong direction - I manually abort the mount movements and trigger a manual GOTO - Now the telescope moves fast, but misses the target slightly and overshoots (and does not stop moving further) - I again abort the movement and trigger a new manual GOTO - Telescope again moves fast (as it should) but misses target again and overshoots again - I stop the movement again - I stop the scheduler and delete / purge all the config of the mount in the Mount tab of EKOS - I trigger a new manual GOTO - Now it slews to the correct position and stops where it should - I restart the Scheduler and now it works Last night when this happend, I went outside to check the configured mount limits on the Hand-Controller and realized that the hand controller was frozen (as in not responding to user input anymore). So I went ahead and restarted the mount through a power cycle. Afterwards the GOTO command worked and it slewed back on target, but the Alignment modul that triggered a pointing correction / slew caused the mount to slew in the complete wrong direction again. Meridian Flips used to work without issues before. I have EKOS / Kstars set to sync the local system time to all connected devices. Wierd thing is, just two nights ago the Meridian flips also worked without issues. Has anybody ever experienced anything similar? Best regards & Thanks Tino Heuberger
