Need Help Re: Getting Gemini I to synch with The Sky 6 to get reliable Go-Tos
Hello Group, |
Re: Info Skyfi vs Gemini 1
Thomas, Modern G11 mounts have 2 horizontal locking bolts for the Elevation angle (Latitude) and two vertical bolts to hold the Azimuth mount rotation.?? You must loosen these bolts else you will not be able to adjust the mount for polar alignment by turning the large front knob for ELevation, or the rear small knobs for AZ.?? But if you loosen both sets (4 bolts) the mount may be too loose.? As you retighten these bolts your polar alignment again shifts.? It can be maddening to get the polar alignment set quickly due you this all-on or all-off behavior.?? My best solution is to add pairs of 3/8th ID Belleville spring washers like this () under the bolt top.? Here are photos of this simple improvement by adding spring washers.? The springs allow you to gradually reduce the bolt force.?? I also add a stainless steel flat washer on top and bottom of the Belleville springs. This prevents marring of the anodized aluminum surfaces.?? Best of luck, Michael On Thu, Jun 30, 2022, 3:33 PM Thomas Bianchi <thomas-bianchi@...> wrote:

GeminiFi & Virtual TCP-COM Bridge
Andy
According to documentation from Losmandy on their GeminiFi WiFi adapter: ? "To use the adapter on a PC, you must create a TCP-COM port bridge. HW Virtual Serial Port software creates a TCP-COM bridge allow Windows based astronomical aplications comunicate throught WIFi moduls." ? I'm able to create a TCP-COM bridge as it shows up in Device Manager, have ASCOM Platform 6.6, and Gemini drivers installed, but getting everything configured and connected to the mount so it can be controlled via Cartes du Ciel, SharpCap, or Gemini Telescope etc. is proving difficult. ? Anyone with experience in this space?? |

Re: Gemini I, Unplugged Motor wire while running
Pulling a motor plug out during running is undesirable but shouldn't cause damage.? Of course you need to plug it back in...but do this with a torch, power off to ensure the plug is aligned with the socket.? Get this wrong and it'll damage the motor or main PCB but putting motor drive onto the 5V line or %V line the motor plug in to ground...bad karma.??
Good thing is the repairers can fix this.?? But best thing is prevention, always plug the motor plugs in with plenty of light as the "key" for the socket/plug is not positive at best to locate. After your even, you will need to redo a cold start and probably dump any pointing model and start again.?? Also Most parts are still available, although gamber replace you battery every year...maybe a little longer with CR2354 batteries and almost 2 years with the CR2450 batteries.?? The CR2032 can last from 3/4's of yr to 1 yr at best...depends upon a lot of things.? The more you use your system the longer the battery lasts as its reversed biased out of cct.?? I'm trying to see if I Anyway enjoy...remember G1s are easily repaired and the same repairers (David (UK), Michael (USA) and I (the antipodes, Australia) ) can do G2s.?? I have a soft spot in my heart for the G1....it was ahead of its time and is still functioning well after ...well almost 20 years plus for some!? Most parts are still available.? . Suffice to say....enjoy! cheers -- Brendan |

Re: Trying to get my 2009 Losmandy G11 Gemini 1 functional again...
Hi Rick Wow that's great to hear. I was going to suggest resetting to HGM defaults but the battery swap may have done exactly that EQMod is only for certain type of mount. For Losmandy Gemini you would use the Gemini Telescope.net (aka "the Gemini control "app"") Brian On Mon, Jun 20, 2022 at 8:41 AM Rick via <revans_01420=[email protected]> wrote:

Re: Trying to get my 2009 Losmandy G11 Gemini 1 functional again...
Miracle or miracles. I've got everything to work just be replacing the battery in the Gemini 1 control box. Then I changed all my virtual ports to 9600 baud. Now I have connectivity to Stellarium, APT, and the Gemini control "app". So I can do everything I need via the laptop now. Only holdout for me is that EQMOD won't connect.... thinks I'm using an EQ6R mount (which I usually do in fact). Haven't figured out how to change its mind into realizing that I'm using a Gemini. Even so, it doesn't affect anything as the EQMOD functionality is in APT and the Gemini "app" anyway. Still, I'll try to solve that one.
