Re: Gemini I, Unplugged Motor wire while running
A pop is from a spark, of course.? Your motor is running off 12-18V DC and might have had a high DC current say 0.5 amps.? The motor coils are an inductor.? ?When you unplug a powered inductor, the magnetic fueld collapses and creates a high voltage "back EMF".? Just like the old coil in a car powering the spark plug off its DC 12V battery. So what could the high voltage spark do?? Lots of things.? It could have modified your SRAM code (which is backed up by the internal 3V battery).? Or worse.? So I think you should first pull off your front Gemini-1 cover, and look for anything burnt, or damaged of the chips inside.? Pull out then put back the 3V battery.? That will fully reset the SRAM data from.the Eprom.?? Then while the cover is still off, put on the 12-18V DC power and boot up the Gemini again.? The handset will show "CMOS Reset" and will default to Losmandy lo action in LA area.?? Now set the UTC clock date and time.? (Code format is YYYY.MM.DD? ).? You can reset the lattitude and longitude too (Code ).? Then power off the G-1 and reboot so it will use the updated info.?? Then.. power back on.? ?While it is powered on and the top still off, gently touch the top of the black plastic chips lightly with your finger...see if any of them are very hot.? If hot, or the Gemini is still performing wacky, then suspect the hot chip or another chip is damaged.? The EPROM or SRAM or CPU can become damaged too...and the operating code data can be corrupted.? The Serial port chip is also vulnerable, so check your PC serial port connection data.? ? If damaged, send the damaged G-1 to a repairer (me in USA, Bren Smith in Australia, or David Partridge in UK) for repair, and additional circuit bulletproofing.?? Re: Trying to get my 2009 Losmandy G11 Gemini 1 functional again...
I explained badly. I meant that your?OIKWAN USB to RS232 DB9 Serial Cable Male Converter Adapter with FTDI Chipset has?not?a RJ9 (C4P4) connector.?And you need to connect a DB9 to RJ9 (C4P4). Anyway, I told you that I built two cables. So I don't need the second one. If you want I can send you such cable. Only I spend 30 EUR in an electronic store.

Re: Trying to get my 2009 Losmandy G11 Gemini 1 functional again...
I saw that your?OIKWAN USB to RS232 DB9 Serial Cable Male Converter Adapter with FTDI Chipset has not a RJ9 (C4P4) connector. So you have to connect such cable to your laptop (USB port) and the Gemini hand control box cable (DB9), being such last cable plugged into the Gemini digital drive box. In case it does not work, the reason is the connection between PINs in DB9 and USB. Please, read?the instructions in the User Manual (Section 6.1.1 Pinout and Wiring, pages 80-81):?
You have to use the PINs: 2, 3 and 5 in DB9. |

You may just need to reset Gemini and build a new pointing model from scratch. The position jumping at the start of a slew is fairly normal, as Gemini doesn't apply a pointing model during a slew, so the coordinates may jump temporarily. If the motors slew fine and the coordinates are correct after the slew, I think everything's still OK. If you suspect the motor having problems, try swapping DEC and RA motors to see if the problem moves to the other axis. If it doesn't -- it's not the motor. |
Gemini I, Unplugged Motor wire while running
Folks -Running an old Gemini I, SkyFi 3 and SkySafari Pro. I somehow accidentally unplugged the DEC motor wire. ?I heard a pop, but plugged it back in. ?The DEC and RA motors still seem to run fine. ? However, now the SkySafari display is buggered up. ?When I select a slew (DEC or RA) from the hand controller or within SkySafari, the position circle drops to the bottom of the display, then mimics the slew but in the wrong celestial position. ?When the slew button is released, the circle pops back to the correct current celestial position. ? Any ideas on what I may have shorted out? ?Something in the Gemini control box, one of the motors, or possibly a cable? ? I will continue to search the Gemini users group, but no answers yet. |

?"Gemini¡¯s serial port is set to communicate at 9600 baud (9600 bps), no parity, 8 data bits, 1 stop bit." ( source: Gemini Users Manual Level 4, Section 6.1.2 Settings, page 82).
Also, you can build your proper cable following the instructions in the same User Manual (Section 6.1.1 Pinout and Wiring, page 80-81). I did it and it is easy. In case you don't know/understand such instructions, I could send you such cable. I did two cables. Cheers!? Manu Madrid, Spain |

Identified the com# used to communicate with the mount and set the baud rate at 115200 as this works with my other mounts. Went to set drivers in EQMOD TOOLS but my mount isn't recognized. Also when I try using the Gemini "app" on its own, it doesn't recognize the mount.? So I ordered a Nexstar serial to USB cable as it was cheap and the only Losmandy specific cable seemed to come from Ukraine and I didn't chance ordering that one. But someone on Cloudynights Forum had success with the Nexstar cable, so... Not sure what's wrong and why I can't get connectivity.? Possibilities are 1) need a firmware update but don't know how to get one or get it loaded onto the scope 2) cable doesn't work 3) the Gemini driver isn't for my old mount but some newer one or 4) your guess is as good as mine... Any ideas? Rick |

¿ªÔÆÌåÓýAfaik all GL.Inet routers use the same OS/firmware so they should all operate similarly (I have at least four different models and they all have the same interface) ? Re: Bought micro router. Have two questions.
Hi Paul,
Do you have a Gemini 1 or a Gemini 2? The Gemini 1 has no Ethernet ports so it is not possible to use it with a router.? ?Never mind. Help me out here, which micro router, the same brand GL.iNet? If it is indeed a GL.iNet mini router is it a Slate or Beryl? These mini routers use the same setup menu layout and are configured the same way as the Mango and depending on the firmware installed the menu screens may be slightly different all that matters is that the information for configuration is filled the same way as for the Mango. The Slate and Beryl routers are much faster but that speed may not be an advantage unless you are using an ASIAIR controller for image and focusing review.?? Re: Bought micro router. Have two questions.
Thank you Brian.
I watched that one, I'll setup the more expensive one similar. I think Astro gadgets has a serial to USB adapter plus cable that might work with the USB connector in the new micro-router, if it detects it as just another IP port, like the others. I have a Windows based tablet. Clear Skies, Paul |

Bought micro router. Have two questions.
Hi Brian and all,
I bought the newer $75 micro router, but I cannot find the video describing its' setup. I only see the one for the Mango router. Could you guide me on this? I have a Celestron Nexstar GPS next to the Losmandy Gemini 2. Is there a way to jury-rig the same capability to it? Clear Skies, Paul |
