Re: New Head
FYI .. I just got the new Head Unit from HRO and so far am impressed .. it's genuine OEM Yaesu unit with the original plastic display protector still protectin' Later today I will swap head units with the one currently on my FT-857D to confirm operation but so far i am quite happy.? The VFO spins freely and smoothly and the two controls on the left side also are smooth and perfect! Not sure how HRO was able to score these guys but I am happy to put it in my supply cabinet.?? I have heard too many stories of zebra stripes and worse even though my radio shows no such issues and probably won't now that I have this spare head unit. ? |
Re: New Head
I read somewhere in this group about OEM head units available from HRO ... I ordered one from Portland Ham Radio Outlet and yesterday I got a email from that store manager that they have obtained one for me and have sent it out.?? It claims to be the entire snap on faceplate unit that I don't need right now but I love my 857D and getting these things might be difficult in the future (New and OEM) .. I still see them on the HRO websites but of course on backorder but should be available. YAESU AAG53X001Control Head for FT-857D (Replacement Extra Control Head)? |
Re: Sounds when connecting to Head unit
I checked the service manual and indeed there is pin 1 (HP-AUDIO) that affects sp / ph on the Panel-Unit (is called).? ? But I found out that there aren't any issues with the rig or perhaps some.? ?
I was experimenting with a Heil headset (stereo plug) and the ext speaker Vertex (mono plug).? ?I also disconnected my home made cable and placed yet another spare one I had.....voila!? Sounds are heard now in both headset / ext speaker.? ? I then replaced the cable again.? ?I still can hear on the headset and ext speaker.? ?But it seems that there might be some intermittent issue on the jack itself...maybe dust I thought?? ?I placed a tad drop of DeoxIT Gold on my index finger and rubbed it on the stereo plug connector of the Heil and the same was done for the mono plug of the Vertex ext speaker. Now I can connect / disconnect each freely and the audio is live all the time. So for now I am a happy camper.? ?But trust me I did not hear anything before....hallucinations, hearing impaired, age; you can call me anything but I know what I was not hearing any audio before.? ? Caso cerrado! Rafael / NN3RP PS:? ...BTW, I am so sorry for the bandwidth ....but who knows it might help someone else down the road of ham radio operation using FT-857D |
Re: Sounds when connecting to Head unit
Yes. ? The external speaker works when connecting to the rear of the main unit. ? Also, the internal speaker on the main unit works by itself. ??

Re: Sounds when connecting to Head unit
Have you tried the ext speaker jack on the back of the main body of the rig?

Re: Sounds when connecting to Head unit
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýThere are 2 small jacks on the FT-857. The jack for an external, multifunction meter (SWR etc) near the front, on the bottom. The speaker/headset jack is on the rear corner. ?It¡¯s somewhat hard to find since it¡¯s also small and black.? 73 de W5DKW On Sep 15, 2023, at 10:18 AM, pinoleronica <pinoleronica@...> wrote:

Re: Sounds when connecting to Head unit
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýGood point. The one on the bottom is
for the external analog meter option, the one on the side is for
headphones.

There are two sockets, are you sure you are using the correct one? Sorry In Posting In This Group,Yes I do Have a FT-857D As Well as an FT-100.
Not Sure IF? Someone still Reads FT-100 Group Messages Since I do Not See ANY in that Group. Now The Problem that Some One in the FT-857 Group can Possibly Help. My Original Hand Held TT MH-36B6js Microphone Recently Developed? "Sound Distortion" Complaints. Internet "Vendors" Advertised the availability of?MH-36B6js Replacement BUT SHIP A MH-48 Which Is NOT a Working Replacement. Another Local FT-100D owner let me Test The FT-100D with His and The Radio is 100%.? I am Looking For a Schematic and Or The Repair manual (if One Ever Existed) of the for the MH-36B6js Hand TT Microphone That is Specific to the FT-100D that Works ALL Of the Functions. The RADIO is still 100% I I sure Would Like To Keep It Still In Operation. Many Thanks, Best Regards. Steve AB2ET/4 |
