Hi Kent,
Can be either, as they both really mean the same. Back in the 70¡¯s when I was working in the computer industry they were known as controlled.

Hi Doug,
I think it¡¯s meant to be TCXO ¨C Temperature Controlled Crystal Oscillator ¨C the master oscillator for the radio.

As I recall it was much earlier CHIRP versions that wrote the EEPROM and risk bricking the FT-857D and perhaps the FT-897D as well. Have no knowledge of HRD causing any such

Re: Old HRD version (prior to 6.3.0.410) may damage. 857
Some emailed me (spam?), asking me why not get a new SDR rig.
For me, 857 is a gem - I got three options (CW and SSB Collins mechanical filters and TXO which is a must for digital) and its size and

Thank you for all the help!!
I use HRD Deluxe (Current version) with FT-3000 at my home QTH. It just works great, and wouldn't part with it.
My laptop with old HRD and 857 is mainly for portable

I think NBEMS/FLDIGI will do what you want. Its a bit of a mess to setup initially, but after that its good. The whole suite is FLDIGI/FLMSG/FLRIG. FLRIG is preferred by many but not required.

Re: would discussion of 897 topics be allowed here?
The FT-897 is a close enough cousin the topics are germain. I own both the FT-857D and FT-897D, and I owned the FT-817D. All are great radios.

Thanks folks! I searched the Groups and couldn't find anything 897 related. I'll jump there now, but will lurk here for issues related to the motherboard.

Greetings from a new lurker. I have been watching here before posting, but haven't seen anything about the 857's bloated brother, the 897. I recently bought an 897d and looked on Gio for a groups
