Re: Non CAT controlled Auto tuner for FT857D
开云体育Various LDG models function differently hence may be an explanation for some of the different reviews you get. ? I use my PROII without an interface cable. Put on AM to get carrier and it tunes on its own when it detects transmission. It also learns band settings for the antenna, eventually reducing tuning cycle.
? Alternatively with a cable you can press tune button on tuner, to cause the radio to transmit carrier as well as putting the radio in low power until tune cycle is complete. ? You can make up your own switch and cable to achieve the same. It does not require any CAT commands to do this, just a pin on the CAT connector and a pin on power connector (to switch to low power during tuning). Just simple wiring, so there is no big deal about the CAT cable. ? If you do use an interface cable, I lost my previous (not PROII model) when a fuse in radio power cable went and the radio sourced power through the LDG instead. The LDG did not like this too much. It is worthwhile to connect the tuner power at the radio side of inline fuses (and for proper noise / ground loop purposes, to have fuse(s) as close to power source as possible) and splitting shortly after the fuse. ? ? ? Re: Non CAT controlled Auto tuner for FT857D
Larry, MFJ, LDG, Palstar and others have auto-tuners that sense the RF and tune accordingly. The Cat interface is convenient in that it tells the tuner that the band/frequency has switched before RF is applied to use any memories already tuned and stored rather than sensing the RF and running a quick tune to find the memories. This may only save .5 second in the best case. ?I have used all three of the above without a CAT interface without problems other than having to wait .5 to 3 seconds and for a new frequency up to 10 seconds (which would happen anyways) for a tune.? 73, Joe / AJ3O

开云体育Larry, ?The LDG YT-100 uses the cat port but provides a cat port for your rig control. so you won't be loosing anything. Yes you can use an MFJ 993 B autotuner without using a cat port. it will auto tune the antenna as soon as you key they radio on the band using either FM or AM modes. Just run the 993B in AUTO mode. hope this helps you out. Brad NK8J On 11/19/2018 7:14 PM, nz5x@...

Re: Setup for WSJT-X / FT8 on 857D
开云体育You have stripped the thread Ken so I am not sure if you are responding to me or not. If so, I did not try the 1.9 version. I went from 1.8 to version 2.0 and it did not work so I just went back to 1.8… I will give 1.9 a try later. It appears that 2.0 is totally different, running different FT8 mode that I am not currently familiar with. Thanks Stan, WA2UET ? ? From: FT-857@... [mailto:FT-857@...]

Re: Setup for WSJT-X / FT8 on 857D
Hi Cliff, I just got my 857D going on WSJT modes and it works fine. I don't have a Signalink, just a home made audio isolator and a CT62 cable for CAT control. I found this web site useful for the menu settings: The WSJTx settings I used were: Serial port - look in device manager at whatever port it has assigned to your Signaling device. Baud rate 38400, 8 bit, 1 stop bit, Hardware handshake, DTR and RTS not set. PTT method CAT Rear/Data audio source Mode USB ( maybe Data but seems to work) Split None (let the software do it) Audio settings are whatever the PC calls your Signalink audio interface. Hope this helps. Oh, rig dropping out of TX immediately is usually RF getting in to the interface cables - load them up with ferrites. Ken M1SLH |

Setup for WSJT-X / FT8 on 857D
Good day all.? I have tried 12 ways from Sunday to get my 857D to connect with the WSJT-X program via Signalink so I can do some FT8 and WSPR work......but without success.? Toshiba laptop, Windows 10, Signalink properly wired up (I've had success with the rig/Signalink/computer using FLDigi in the past), etc.? I've tried the same with the most recent WSJT-X version and others before it, with no success.? Whether its because my setup parameters in the program are wrong, or something else is incorrect, but I just can't get the program to either decode signals from the 857D OR properly key up the transceiver.? Oh it will cause the rig to key to transmit, but then immediately drop out.? I also repeatedly get the Hamlib error no matter what selections are checked in the WSJT-x program. I know this is a simple bone headed mistake (or 10) on my part.? But I'm hoping to get some guidance from those in this group more learned that I.? Thank you.? Cliff W3KKO |

Re: Select button Rotary Encoder locks up in one turning direction.
I recently replaced this encoder on a 857 because the shaft of the encoder was broken. My opinion is that it is not possible to repair the encoder itself because of the way it is constructed and the small parts that are inside. Replacing the complete encoder is not difficult and everybody with little soldering skills can do it. The part itself is around $30 I hope this helps. Antoon PA2AR

Select button Rotary Encoder locks up in one turning direction.
开云体育Hi. ? My Rotary Encoder select knob is locked up in one direction. ? Has anybody experienced this before or have you perhaps taken one apart and could provide insight on whether its worth attempting a rescue? ? Thanks Marius zr6p ? |
Re: Bought a used ft 857D
When you say?the selector knob I assume you are referring?to the Main Tuning Dial (VFO on the old sets)? If so, it means you need to replace the optical encoder as it should not wobble and the shaft should not pull out.
the Orginal part number is?RES20D50-201-1G? ?and a replacement on eBay?appears to be?Q9000709A . I would contact Yaesu parts first, as I have found them to be pretty reasonable in the past, at least for potentiometers, mic switches, encoders etc.? And yes, they click when you change bands as the there are relays doing the band switching! These are a nice little unit that works pretty well considering the design is quite dated. I use one almost every day in my retired guy hobby shop :)? ?I hope this is useful to you. 73, Dennis AG7K |

开云体育I broke the selector knob on my FT857 and Yaesu sent me a replacement for about $10.? It's a quick solder job to replace.? I believe that my 857 and my 817 have the same knob, so I ordered two in case I did something stupid again. Clicking.? Relay clatter?? If so, it sounds normal to me. On 2018-11-12 11:58 a.m.,
