Noisy Fan

Is it me or does the 857 fan make too much noise on transmit? It's annoying tbh and so far it's the only issue I've had with my radio, everythingh else is fine, it's a great radio imho. I only use 20W or so usually but the fan comes on after a few seconds and stays on for a bit when receiving whatever the output power setting, I'm using it as a homebase not mobile and have to turn up the volume to overcome the noise. Other half ain't too happy either, lol.

Anyone else have the same probs, is it my radio? Is there a fix (replacement) available? Be nice to sort it if possible. Ideas and solutions welcome :)

Re: Display shows "IPO-On" on 2m-band

Hello Joseph,

that is a good hint! I also played around with CAT-Control...

Thank you very much and

Re: Display shows "IPO-On" on 2m-band

I've been playing with the CAT interface and I'm able to turn on / off IPO on 2m/70cm bands, and it does nothing since it's not in the RX chain for the VHF/UHF bands. It's harmless so I wouldn't let it bother you.

Hello Brad,

sorry, I don't know why you mention "T"... I only had a problem with "I" shown on 2m band frequencies and as you know, this function should not be available on UHF and VHF... It turns out, that edititing the memories via CHIRP solved this problem... but I still don't know, how it happend...

Re: Factory Reset

Hi Marius,

The 3 resets in the manual do not change any information that is stored in the Service Menu. The only way for that to get modified is to be in the Service Menu making changes and then holding the menu key for 2 secs to write the new data to the Serial EEProm or flash ROM. All the reset does with that is have the cpu re-read the data stored there.

Does any of these power-on resets, not delete the service settings in the radio?

Thanks

Congratulations....Page 119 of the 857D Operating Manual covers THREE types of Power -on 'Factory Reset' procedures

?

1. Press and hold the [V/M} plus power.

? ? This resets All Memories AND following Menu settings to their factory default values.

? ? Menu settings numbers: 06; 33; 52; 56; 76; 82 and 83.

?

2. Press and hold the [FUNC] button plus power.

? ?Restes ALL MENU SETTINGS except THE Menu setting numbers in 1. above.

?

3. Press and hold [HOME] plus power.

? ?This is a CPU MASTER RESET for ALL MEMORIES AND ALL MENU SETTINGS.

?

The 857 D is a great rig.

?

All the best,

Was the thread about the heat gun fix for zebra stripes on this forum? If so, I missed it. Could you provide a pointer?

Re: Band "DWN / UP" buttons ceased function

As with many issues - there's nothing new under the sun.? I found a thread from 3 years ago with a similar symptom.? The solution was to remove power and all other connections, then repower and restart.

All is good now.? Working fine again.

Band "DWN / UP" buttons ceased function

My two top buttons for Band DWN / UP suddenly stopped working.? Never a problem - operating normally today.? Then stopped working at all.

In fairness, I was in the multi-function and "deep" menus, testing some other changes to the system, but Nothing I changed should have this impact.

The lock key is NOT engaged, so that's not the problem.

I even took the drastic measure of a full factory-reboot to see if that would re-set things but not so!

Have I just stumbled into a "random feature" here?? Not a feature as far as I'm concerned.??

I'd appreciate help on how to get things back to normal.

Re: FT857D mod

Yes. That is correct. You then need to create saved memory locations with the 5Mhz channels.

Not a big deal, but you lose a few of your limited 200 memory slots :-)

Actually one impact. Automatic Repeater Shift no longer works. You will manually have to choose correct offset.

Re: digital and voice modes from PC

Yaesu makes a USB interface called the SCU-17. You have to make sure you have the both the data and cat cables for it to work. It will work with digital mode apps on your computer.

Hi,

I have a question about using digital and voice modes from computer.
I would like to know if there is anyone who did this modding in order to operate the radio from computer:

Both CAT and Mic are needed to operate from PC. I would use MicroHAM USB III

Will this work for both digital and voice mode operations from PC ? MicroHAM USB creates a USB virtual sound card, but i have not used it, just reading it.
