Hi Sal,

? Few days ago there was a thread about a fix for zebra stripes done with a blow gun. It was an easy one. Try looking for that too.

Please ignore this post if you? feel yet another discussion about this "feature " is pointless.?

Reason I am bringing this up - again -? I have squired Autek VA1 analyzer. It allegedly? has an " automatic shut off " . I left the battery in for abut a week and the display - plain LCD - just turned into a mess , missing segments AKA zebra stripes so familiar on FT857. After putting fresh battery in , it works as advertised - no missing segments on LCD.?

From past discussions - zebra stripes are 100% blamed on bad connections to the LCD itself. It basically goes with the technology of LCD - carrying nanoamperes? thru the push-on connection is a challenge.

Not enough current, but apparently low supply , as demonstrated by my recent experience with Autek is also an issue.?

This may be a VERY long shot - but the front panel power ( 8V ?)? comes from the RJ connector originally "designed" for 48V , occasional blast of up to 120V? AC " ringing voltage"? etc.?

What I am suggesting to zebra victims - before shelling hundreds of $ for repairs or new control head - try replacing the "power connector"? first.?

I am - as soon as I find my RJ crimper or my remote cables.??

WARNING !?

If you decide to replace the pigtail - MAKE SURE the wires are of correct polarity , check the manual FIRST!?

I am not sure if the control head has an "idiot diode" in the power connection. .?
