Yes it will work but remember to change menu 59 back if your running the remote mike so the up/down buttons will work correctly.

Hi,

I have a question about using digital and voice modes from computer.
I would like to know if there is anyone who did this modding in order to operate the radio from computer:

Both CAT and Mic are needed to operate from PC. I would use MicroHAM USB III

Will this work for both digital and voice mode operations from PC ? MicroHAM USB creates a USB virtual sound card, but i have not used it, just reading it.

Anybody ever tried to modify / adjust the SWR display to read from 0 to 2? instead from 0 to 3 ? Anything above 2 is really not that useful for quick antenna check AKA Field Day.
I am not asking to get " Google it" replies , I am asking if there is a calibration procedure in tech supplement somebody ALREADY tried.

Re: Display shows "IPO-On" on 2m-band

Hello Brad,

sorry, I don't know why you mention "T"... I only had a problem with "I" shown on 2m band frequencies and as you know, this function should not be available on UHF and VHF... It turns out, that edititing the memories via CHIRP solved this problem... but I still don't know, how it happend...

Hi Peter,
?
If you can reprogram the radio easily I would try a factory reset and then see what you get. There is also the possibility some of the parts values in the PA have changed and the service menu items are no longer correct.

Good luck but I don't think a reset will fix it. The ALC on mine behaved the same way. it was also more aggressive than some other radios (e.g. the 950) with a slow recovery time resulting in lower average output on SSB.

Re: FT857D ALC

Congratulations....Page 119 of the 857D Operating Manual covers THREE types of Power -on 'Factory Reset' procedures

1. Press and hold the [V/M} plus power.
? ? This resets All Memories AND following Menu settings to their factory default values.
? ? Menu settings numbers: 06; 33; 52; 56; 76; 82 and 83.

2. Press and hold the [FUNC] button plus power.
? ?Restes ALL MENU SETTINGS except THE Menu setting numbers in 1. above.

3. Press and hold [HOME] plus power.
? ?This is a CPU MASTER RESET for ALL MEMORIES AND ALL MENU SETTINGS.

The 857 D is a great rig.

All the best,

FT857D ALC

Hi I have the problem that my 857D only shows ALC movement on 6 and 2M at up to the mid power level after this it declines until at full power there is no movement ?
Any help would be most welcome, there is one other trait that I have just found that is if the VSWR is slightly off ( Above 1.5:1) then the ALC works

Re: Display shows "IPO-On" on 2m-band

Hi James,

thank you very much for your answer!

Yes, I think this issue is quite seldom... but in the meanwhile I saw a picture in the internet, where another guy had the "I"-character on a 70 cm frequency... so I'm not the only one.

Yes, I think the "I" in the display is the only problem and I'm sure, that the receiver worked with its full sensivity. Nothing changed after correcting the problem via CHIRP.

The problem happened, as I stored many frequencies into the memories. I didn't want to do a reset, because it's quite a lot work to set all my memories. But as I've been "forced" to use CHIRP, I saw that is really easy to handle and now it's a fun to set and edit my memories...

Again, thank you and

I haven't seen this issue in my 12 (or whetever) years on this list
nor on my own 857D so I suspect it's a software bug but whether the
pre-amp actually is on is another question.
?
It sounds as though you solved it with Chirp but otherwise I suspect
a full reset will do it. The manual gives reset details.

The T is Split Tone On. turn tone off. Page 31 of your manual. The IPO is Intercept Point Optimization. turns pre-amplifier on/off but not used on the 144 or 430 band. Page 43 of your manual

Hello Bill,

yes, you are right: if IPO is set to on, the pre-amplifier is switched off and vice versa.?
But that is not my problem. During "normal" operation, the litte "I"-character should never appear on 2m and on 70cm frequencies... and it did with mine FT-857d :-(

But I don't know, how it happened or what I did wrong.

Display shows "IPO-On" on 2m-band

Hello,

I just got a FT-857D and I like it very much.?

But I recognized a strange thing: suddenly, after setting up some memories, the display shows for all 2m-frequencies the "I", which means, that "IPO" is activated!? As the IPO should available only for the HF-band, but not for UHF and VHF, I cant switch it off because for 2m frequencies the IPO button doesn't work.

After testing the trx and especially the IPO-function on HF bands, I found all works ok.?

After this I examined the memories with CHIRP... and after I enabled all "IPOs" of the 2m-memories the "I" is gone :-)

But I don't know, what I did wrong. I think, its a firmware issue.?

Is there anybody out there with the same "problem"??

And can anybody tell me, what I did wrong?

Thanks in advance es
