Re: FS: Collins 2.3KHz SSB and 500Hz CW filters

I bought a similar filter from eBay. Think it was 2.3 or 2.7 (not sure).
A good price and smooth delivery.

Re: Select button Rotary Encoder locks up in one turning direction.

I recently replaced this encoder on a 857 because the shaft of the encoder was broken.

My opinion is that it is not possible to repair the encoder itself because of the way it is constructed and the small parts that are inside.
Replacing the complete encoder is not difficult and everybody with little soldering skills can do it.
The part itself is around $30

I hope this helps.

Hi.

My Rotary Encoder select knob is locked up in one direction.

Has anybody experienced this before or have you perhaps taken one apart and could provide insight on whether its worth attempting a rescue?

?

Thanks

I replace the lcd display a while back and vaguely recall there being a nut on the back of vfo shaft? ? May be a maintenance manual might give you some insight. ?I will see if i can find a diagram?

Re: Select button Rotary Encoder locks up in one turning direction.

It needs to be replaced. The Orginal part number is RES20D50-201-1G and Yaesu Parts is the best place to get it. A relatively easy and cheap parts swap will have you back on the air.

Anybody used FT857 with YAESU FL-7000 Solid state HF amplifier?

Any complications to watch out for or requiring special attention?

Re: Bought a used ft 857D

When you say?the selector knob I assume you are referring?to the Main Tuning Dial (VFO on the old sets)? If so, it means you need to replace the optical encoder as it should not wobble and the shaft should not pull out.
the Orginal part number is?RES20D50-201-1G? ?and a replacement on eBay?appears to be?Q9000709A . I would contact Yaesu parts first, as I have found them to be pretty reasonable in the past, at least for potentiometers, mic switches, encoders etc.? And yes, they click when you change bands as the there are relays doing the band switching!

These are a nice little unit that works pretty well considering the design is quite dated. I use one almost every day in my retired guy hobby shop :)? ?I hope this is useful to you.

I broke the selector knob on my FT857 and Yaesu sent me a replacement for about $10.? It's a quick solder job to replace.? I believe that my 857 and my 817 have the same knob, so I ordered two in case I did something stupid again.

Clicking.? Relay clatter?? If so, it sounds normal to me.

Hi, a US Postal Service small flat rate box is about $35 to Sweden, which I think is too much. To get any other pricing I would have to box it up and take it to a post office in person for pricing..?

US postal/shipping prices are crazy!
?
I live in Australia and virtually never consider buying US products, I buy
from China and Europe but normally US shipping costs are more than
the item cost.

Could you estimate the cost of shipping to Sweden? I would like to buy the SSB filter.

That’s the thing about these scammers, they advertise by posting to various mailing lists. They don’t use one of the classified listings like where there is a history and buyer/seller feedback. Not that there aren’t scams on , but when you see an ad posted to several mailing lists but not the classifieds sites, it’s almost certainly a scam.?

Just to be sure I'm clear, I meant to physically visit the location of the seller and see the equipment in operations.
Also, paypal is my friend. LOL? One other thing to check is the seller's feedback. If they have very few or a lot of negatives I would steer clear. If they have a lot of feedback and all or only 1 out of hundreds that are negative I would probably chance it. People do quit hobbies from time to time.

LOL I'm going to put my model airplanes up for sale as a "lot" soon, I'm not able to fly them any longer due to a neck injury. It is what it is and I have a LOT of stuff.

The QRZ buying and selling isn’t what it’s cracked up to be I bought a 101EE from a guy it got here and would only put out 20 W and had some switch on the front underneath I had no idea what it was for the seller left me no instructions and to pay $350 for a not working Radio sure burn me so needless to say my QRZ buying days are done at least with PayPal you can open a case and maybe get your money back or return the item?
