Re: problem with my FT857D
开云体育Thanks Kent and Eric; Kent no near RF fields; parked completely out in the open with no power lines in sight.Eric:probably the best advice to save memories (already done) and reset the radio to factory settings. I think I’ll ultimately do that but first ?using RTSystems ?upload to correct any errors and download the results. So far that has worked! 开云体育Hi Bob, ? The reset procedures are listed on page 117 of the manual. There are 3 options depending on what you want to reset. ? Remember after any reset to enable menu 1 to get the full menu set, otherwise you won’t see some of the menu items as you scroll through the menus. Leaving it off hides some of the less used menu options. ? 73….Eric VK2VE. ? From: [email protected] <[email protected]> On Behalf Of ROBERT WEED

开云体育Hi Bob, ? Mobile radios can sometimes do funny things. For instance, if you start the vehicle with the radio already turned on it can cause a glitch which can screw up the radio. This is normally fixed by a reset of the radio. ? I suggest that, if you haven’t already done so, ?download the memory information and other settings to a computer, then do a full reset on the radio. ? Next, update all the memory information to the correct settings, save it to the computer and then upload it back to the radio. ? 73….Eric VK2VE. ? I've been using an LDG YT-100 tuner with my Yaesu FT-857D. However, recently the fuse that lets 12V to pass through the CAT cable to the tuner burnt out. I will try to replace it this week, hopefully it's was just old. But there is a chance that the tuner is
faulty and that's why the fuse burnt out. We'll see.

Re: CAT Cable USB for FT 857D
开云体育I use this configuration as well, with a DigiRig mobile and 857D cables. ThIs is actually a better configuration because the rear CAT jack is perilously close to the antenna jacks and, like the audio/DATA jack can easily pick up RF. Some digital
modes handle this better (VARA HF) than others (WSJT-X modes like FT-8). Note (and this may be on your web page), you have to configure Menu option 59 (NOR/RMT/CAT) to CAT.

[Edited Message Follows] There is an undocumented CAT control port for the FT-857D through the microphone Jack. You can find it with a google search. It took me about an hour to make the device on a bread board exactly as shown in the schematic and it worked flawlessly. I have
a tremor in my hands that makes soldering rather difficult. A couple of small venders offered the cords already made up but the one I purchased did not work because the maker tried to simplify the circuit in some way. Here is the web address for the one I
successfully breadboarded. <>. This leaves the CAT jack available for a tuner or amplifier
control. I have used my FT-857D that way with the SGC SG-230 remote tuner, more correctly an antenna coupler, and the set up worked quite well.?
?
It's connectors are serial to USOC modular microphone jack so you will need a USB to serial adapter. Be sure that the adapter that you buy has a genuine FTDI chip set. In use with radios the prolific chip set has acquired a reputation for poor performance.
There are a lot of counterfeit chips out? there so look for the brands that are specifically mentioned as genuine is the non vender comparison articles. Even though the sales and catalog descriptions call the connector you need a DB9 that is actually erroneous
because the Serial connector is actually size E as in D form, size E connector, 9 pin. I don't know were the habit of calling all D form connectors size B but, in general, it doesn't do any harm because nearly the entire industry uses this misnomer but pay
attention because there are a few DB9s out there that are actually the common B size but actually have only 9 pins. Those are used in? gender changers and a few converters.?
