WTB: FT-857
Hi, All, I like my FT-897 very much, but most of my ham operation in future is likely to be mobile, and so I could better use the smaller size and lesser weight of the FT-857. Is there anyone in the

FT-857D and lower TX power outside of HAM Frequencies
Hello folks, New to the forum. I just purchased the FT-857D and did the frequency expansion mod to see what this radio could do on the bench. What is interesting is, when putting the radio on a dummy

Re: Battery issues - FT-857 mobile with ATAS-120
Yes, thank you. Douglas Wyman was kind enough to remind me. That is what I get for attempting to go straight from memory instead of visiting the manual before posting. I do vividly recall that for the

Re: Battery issues - FT-857 mobile with ATAS-120
Actually the brown wire is a battery sense. It changes the power out to conserve battery when it is energized. The atas120 is controlled by a dc voltage imposed on the coax line. Less than

Re: Battery issues - FT-857 mobile with ATAS-120
The brown wire when connected to ground reduces output of the 857D to 20 watts automatically. KA2HPG

Re: Battery issues - FT-857 mobile with ATAS-120
I believe that the ATAS-120 and the FT-857 both need to be grounded to the same potential.? ?There is a 3rd, brown wire for the power connector on the FT-857 which, if I recall, serves the purpose

Re: Restoring 146-148
I also have a Japanese 857 on my hands. Were you able to open tx for repater use and open up the upper segment of V/H for TX? I did mod it with the well know configuration, but no luck.I do realise

Re: Restoring 146-148
Old thread. I also have a Japanese FT-857. The MARS mod 888I88III does not unlock anything. Actually removing the zero ohm resistor at at position 3 (fornt front to back) makes me loose WIDE RX on

Re: FT-857d PL ISSUES
Do you have a programming cable hooked to the radio? I had this problem and found it to be the RT systems programming that was connected to my radio. Unplugged the cable and the PL tone frequencies

Hi Tony, If you have the ability to restore the programmed frequencies easily I would do a factory reset and reprogram the frequencies and see what you get. Any chance that the repeaters input pl tone

FT-857d PL ISSUES
For some reason now, my PL frequency is off by one setting. So, for example, on both 2 meters and 450mhz if I want to transmit using a PL of 114.8 I must tune to a PL freq of 118.8 to key a repeater
