Re: Richmond Hill and a Switch
¿ªÔÆÌåÓýI agree with Bill. I have this duplicate slide in my collection. My slide
is marked ¡°D&H 4027, 4045. 8/6/60 Richmond Hill, NY.¡± This is a northbound
freight coming off Track 4 (identified as Track 2 in 1960) at the top of the
grade. As a kid, I remember seeing the line but by that time, most of Track 2
had been abandoned and a short segment was being used to store cars. Photos of
the low grade line are hard to come by.

Switch ?
First the slide is labeled incorrectly as it should be
Richmondville Hill.? The only place it could be would be DE Cabin ("Dante")
where the low grade line diverged from the main. It was abandoned in 1964 so
this would be near the end of its operational life. You can still see a lot of
the old ROW when travelling on I88. This picture would be a little west of where
Rt 7 passes over the tracks just west of West Richmondville. Dante would have
been south of Rt 7. The next most obvious landmark is the old bridge abutments
on Brooker Hollow Road. (Not sure if they are still there). Not sure that is
where the slide is from though. This is a little before my time and I don't
recall any pictures of the track there.

Re: Richmond Hill and a Switch
D&H had 2 mains at one time running south of Schenectady. People refer to them as the High line and low line. One was eventually abandoned and parts of that row eventually became I-88 Neat picture!? Maybe this was a Northbound train on the low line approaching the area where the North end of the Richmondville siding interlocking is at currently?
