New lathe
开云体育I have just obtained a Dalton Six Type B-4.? I am a complete newbie to machine work but want to learn.? I am seeking information about instruction manuals, sources of extra gears for the power feed attachment, and suggestions for a basic ‘how to’ text for operating lathes for making small parts. ? Dan Hrinko |
Hi Dan Dalton hever had a manual or at least any that we have ever found.? Your best bet is South Bend lathe's how to run a lathe and also the Atlas operation manual.? Both are very revallent to the Dalton lathe design. As to gears for threading and different speeds for power feeding they are hard to come by.? Unless anyone?in the group has some extras you?will not find any on the internet.? The gears are 14 1/2 degree?pressure?angle and diametral?pitch is 20. Let us know the serial number and also the Lot number.? PIctures are always welcome. Some of the guys have?had luck making gears by 3D printing ones they needed.? ?Also let us know what?gears you do have.? There are 15 gears in the Dalton set of change gears.? Dennis? Dennis: I have the change gears you gave me. I have never used them in that one part on my lathe I could never get right was the Banjo.

Dan (if its alright with you Dennis) I cna pass on this set. -Bart PS I also have a more modern Grizzly (is there ever such a thing as just ONE LATHE?) and its change gears work like a dream. Mostly I use my Dalton as a erzat Rifling jig. On 7/29/24 1:04 PM, Dennis Turk via groups.io wrote:

开云体育What does this lever do? (Top center of image). So far, it seems to lock the machine in place by moving 2 gears onto mating gears on the main shaft.Dan -------- Original message -------- From: Dennis Turk <dennisturk448@...> Date: 7/30/24 1:54 PM (GMT-05:00) To: DaltonLathes@groups.io Subject: Re: [DaltonLathes] New lathe Dan this is?what you lathe looked like when it was new. 开云体育It is called the “Back Gear” and basically puts the lathe into a sort of compound mode (to borrow an old automotive term). It gives you many lower RPM speeds to use. ?Asa side benefit it does lock the headstock when wish to do some non turning work on the lathe but basically just to use it as a vice. ?I wish modern lathes had that feture. ?-Bart

开云体育I have since learned that there is a small button on the right side of the inboard gear that disengaged it from the main shaft to allow the reduction in speed. Pull it out to disconnect it from the main shaft and push it in to connect the gear to the main shaft.Dan -------- Original message -------- From: Grey Pilgrim <pilgrim23@...> Date: 7/31/24 1:37 PM (GMT-05:00) To: DaltonLathes@groups.io Cc: Dennis Turk <dennisturk448@...> Subject: Re: [DaltonLathes] New lathe
