Oops, I was looking at the cross feed.
OK, I just looked at both cross feed screws and both are again 7/16-10 LH
acme. I have one here if you want it, both the screw and the nut.

Is your lathe a lot 4 or a lot 6? My lot 4 and lot 6 both have 7/16-10 LH
screws. I didn't look to see if they were square or acme but I assume they
are acme.
Here is one on ebay,

Re: hrust bearing
Larry order a set of thrust washers and a needle bearing from MSC or Mc Master Carr to go in place of the red thrust washer under your adjusting nut. Total thickness of the two thrust washers and

Re: hrust bearing
Easiest is to buy one of the online bearing stores... in a Pinch, I made one from 1 inch bronze rod one time. Drill it to the correct diameter and part off to whatever thickness you might need.

Re: Max & recommended shaft rpm
I agree with you on this, Dennis. Glen has at least 5 CNCs in his shop,
plus at least 3 conventional lathes, one of which is a monster, and has
been running his own machine shop for what, 40 years or

Re: Max & recommended shaft rpm
Please roll with your own interpretations Herb, I agree that high HP and
speeds are needed for production high volume machining, but often carbides
and ceramics are the only way to cut some

Re: Max & recommended shaft rpm
To successfully employ carbide, you need 2 things--Horsepower, and rigidity. Daltons are a fine little lathe, but they were designed in an era (after the first world war) when high speed steel was

I don't mean to be contrary or make anyone angry but a good machinist knows
when to use either HSS or carbide.

Re: Max & recommended shaft rpm
If you only have one lathe, set the lowest speed so that a piece about 6" in diameter will run at about 40 surface feet a minute. This is the maximum speed for cast iron. let the maximum speed for

I replaced my motor with a new 3/4 hp 110v motor from Grizzly. Seems to run fine. 220 would be better from a harmonics point of view - but 110 is more versatile from a small hobby shop point of

Hi Larry
Using the Dalton supplied countershaft three step pulley Dalton ran there countershaft at 250 rpm. This I believe gave a top spindle speed of 480 Rpm. You would be safe at running your
